Yes,kind to the owners, but if a stranger tries to come to the house the hovawart barks like mad. Bark is so loud that everybody respects it and also the dog's size. And it's a good door bell too if the actual bell is broken. We haven't had a door bell for years because our dog always reacts if there's someone outside.
