Lol i would say we are seeing perhaps a map from Intercon since it seems that the map has its space centered. I highly doubt Intercon even knows much beyond this map considering all the minor and major issues it is to face in this Universe, exploration may no longer be as high a priority as defense or development.

Honestly i wouldn't be surprised if the outer limits would be considered an empty barren void. As you travel further from the core of a galaxy stars become further and further apart perhaps making extensive FTL exploration of the region difficult if not currently impossible.

It all depends what type of FTL you're using. If you move the space around you in a bubble like in star trek then it just becomes a long trip or it's like star wars where some barrier exist making it impossible unless somehow you find a gap in the barrier, Stargate where moving through their hyperspace has no galactic limit and extragalactic travel is easy, or Warhammer where FTL is so unpredictable traveling normally can get you in trouble along whit if you go too far the beacon allowing for FTL becomes too weak and it's impossible to move through space like that anymore.
