Been watching a looooooooooot of Silverhawks today.Perhaps too much.
I really really -REALLY- wanted to like this show. When I saw the intro, I was hooked immediately, but that first episode ruined everything forever. The cast of villains are laughable, maybe two or three of them are really villain-y. The dude pictured above is the head honco, MON * STAR, he's like some kinda He-man mobster that transforms from moonstar rays. The fact that he has to transform at all is kinda dumb.
So what I've done is mixed his two forms together, since he looks way cooler when he's got his Lion-O mane going on (fun fact, Silverhawks was made by the same people who did Thundercats). Instead of a mobster, he should've been some kind of warlord or pirate king that's been causing shenanigans. There was one episode where he tried to get these extra-galactic aliens to wage war on Earth, THAT would have made an excellent over-arching plot while he's doing his pirate thing fighting the Silverhawks.
Anyway, I had to get this out before I went crazy

this looks something out of a game, and this would be the game over screen, also what i like of mon star, is that in that period, the villans were all some ancient powerful demonic badass, mon star was a mob boss andhe want riches, he dont want to destroy only takeover, love your design

yeah, Mon*Star had an awesome design... both normal and armored.... but really lacking in other areas. This was one show where they could've done more with the concepts... but clearly opted not to.

I used to love that show when I was kid. XD Oh man I can remember the whole Mon star transformation sequence and everything. XD Laughable now all the over done drama and inaccuracies nowadays but it was fun to me as a kid. It and He-man, G1 Transformers and all that era of cartoons just about.

Love your re-design of the Silverhawks main villain, and I agree, the villains were horribly limited by all being petty gangsters. Plus, unlike "Thundercats" shows (both of them) there wasn't a very big, disconnected variety to play around with.
Any chance Melodia and Poker-Face will be on your re-design docket?

I might do one of Stargazer too, in a few episodes his past came up and I was more interested in that then the current plot

Yeah...I tend to favor the useless or weaker villains.
But considering how well done your Mon-Star ending up being, any re-design that you do from this series would be appreciated. And thank you for the fun reply!

I like your rendition of him. I have always enjoyed that intro, its possibly one of the best cartoon intros ever IMO, but alas, the show did suffer from some serious issues....
Never the less, great artist material, I have thought of doing fan art for many years, but not tackled it yet...

My gosh, I had totally forgotten abut this guy. Excellent job you've done on him.
If you really want to take a stroll down Amnesia Lane and latch on to something cool but also laughable once you get back into, you could always take a stab at The Mighty Orbots. I've been hard pressed to find anyone who actually even remembers that show existed. Might not get the taste of the Siverhawks out of your mouth (which, btw, was a show I loved... at the time) but it would certainly be something different to chew on.
Again, great job on Mon*Star. He looks like what you would get if Lion-O were to give in to the Dark side of the Force which is always an Epic Win in my book.

It was groundbreaking for its time and had the coolest giant combining robot of its time in terms of size but it's also like watching the 1984 Transformer cartoons now that I'm an adult. I look at it and think "I actually hauled ass home from school each day to watch this? OMG!" LOL
