Description
I did this drawing for my girlfriend, who is being her wonderful self and taking care of me during my period of incapacitation. The characters featured are from Harry Potter: Remus in his werewolf form, and Sirius in his dog form. Everything I know about Harry Potter, I learned from my girlfriend (and the movies), because I hate reading. But she told me after the 3rd movie that she didn't picture their animals forms the way they were portrayed in the movie. She said there is a description of Sirius that uses "big" and "bearlike", and we both agree that although he is big in the movie, he is not bearlike. She pictured a Newfoundland and ever since she told me that, that's the only way he looks right to me. I think there is too commonplace a perception that Sirius is a German Shepherd type dog...I'm not sure why, but I think it has to do with the fangirls and how they like to make everything pretty...Newfoundlands aren't exactly pretty (depending on who you ask), but most would agree that GSDs are pretty and elegant. I don't think this is fair, personally, but to each his or her own. I think Sirius looks good as a Newfie.
Remus, on the other hand, is pictured as a quadraped because Jenny told me that there is never a specific description in the books that say he is bipedal, other than the use of the word "werewolf." So, I thought I should draw him as a quadraped. While the movie did not portray him this way, a lot of the fanart I've seen does, which I think is interesting.
Anywho, this is Remus and Sirius, and they love each other because Jenny says so.
Also the lyrics have nothing to do with the picture except that Remus is crazy.=3
Enjoy!

Nice Pic! Anyway, the movies got it wrong about Moony being bipedal. In the Prisoner of Azkaban book there's a picture of Moony at the beginning of one of the chapters (I think that it was the chapter called Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs). J.K. Rowling made that known when she gave an interview at one point.
I love how Moony is lightly chewing on Padfoot's ear, and Padfoot just has this look that says 'Why?'. Very adorable.

Well since the only description we have to go by is that in a book, and books are meant to induce your imagination, I can see where you could get a different idea of Sirius. (; I was just aiming for the "bear-like" appearance and to me, that screams Newfoundland. If you don't know what they look like, you can google Newfoundland. They're big herding dogs with rather short muzzles.
Thank you so much for the comments. I'm glad you liked it! And of course you can use it as a background.

Love this picture....I always pictured Sirius as a St Bernard or a Beardog becouse of the description in the book but after doing some reserch on the grim which is also mentiond in the book it is said the grim in many aspects is a rather wolfish looking animal so in conclusion I rekon that Sirius is somewhre the size of a St Bernard but has a vage wolfish look about him.
Not that i'm condradicting your art this is very impressive and definetly one of my favs.
PS - if you've seen the film about Jack Londons Call of the wild (if not you have to see it) Buck is what if pictured Sirius to be only in all black.
Hope I didn't scare ya with all this its my puny English mind working too much for its own good.
once again brilliant art...

I think that might be why, in the movie, they made Sirius look so wolfish. So to the audience they could conclude that OMG SIRIUS = GRIM??
Yes, I have seen Call of the Wild, but my favorite version is the one WITHOUT Charlton Heston. I can't remember what Buck looked like in that one, but I've read the book as well so I see what you are saying. Very similar descriptions!
Thank you for the comments and I'm glad you liked it. ^^

I thought of a giant Newfoundland, too... can't remember what they did in the movie. Think he had perked ears...
At any rate, I like how soft this is and Remus' muzzle. Something about it. Not sure.
And Sirius has awesomepaws. Really. Truely.
Awesomely.

I do believe the movie version was a black Irish Wolfhound, at least that's what it looked like, given the height and texture of fur.

Though I believe you were commenting to Blaze, it popped up in my message center so I think I'll comment back! I agree with the wolfhound observasion. Even though it was off of what the book described, for a movie effect it was rather, ah, effective. Any big bear dog I can think of would not be very ominous to a movie audience, and the big scraggly wolfhound was a nice choice~

For the theme and emotion of the movie, the wolfhound was the right choice, though I must say I prefer the New Foundland, much cuter!

What they did in the movie was something like a very large, scraggly german shepherd, all black. Or maybe a wolf. In any case, it didn't look like a bear.
And thank you for the comments. (; Very glad you liked it!
