Description

This is the Hot Wheels car Synkro from the movie series Hot Wheels Acceleracers. I loved those movies when I was little and Synkro was definitely one of my favorite cars. This was a difficult car to make because there really aren't any good pictures to go off of and the ones that do exist are very low resolution. I also had to try and find the best images of all the decals and then had to heavily modify them in Photoshop. Modeled in Blender, and rendered in Keyshot.

How did you pull this off? I'm planning to do a 3D model of my favourite Hot Wheels car, the Firestorm, as a start for my own definitive Hot Wheels game.

Lol, with a good amount of time and patience. The hardest part was getting pictures to reference. From there it was a lot of modeling, touching up, modeling, touching up.....you get the picture. Firestorm is a cool looking car, had never heard of it before. At least there are some good pictures of it. Also, I forgot to respond to your earlier post. I've never used Maya but I would assume the steps that you take to model something and the different techniques you use are going to be the same for the most part for each program. Things like starting with shapes (planes, cubes, cylinders..) and slowly molding them into complex shapes. The biggest differences are probably gonna be things like the way the interface is configured and organized and maybe shortcut keys.

JakeBurner In reply to BlazingEclipse8 [2015-10-06 05:05:49 +0000 UTC]

Huh. I tried making 2d references out of photos of the Firestorm toy itself but some bits and spaces from each side didn't match up. So you just use the different angles from different photos to tell where everything goes an all?

BlazingEclipse8 In reply to JakeBurner [2015-10-07 04:16:22 +0000 UTC]

With some of the Hot Wheels cars I would try to use toy pictures to trace from in Blender and had pictures of different angles from the show to eyeball the rest of the details with. When you have a rough model going you can adjust the proportions as you go.

Could you ask the modeler if you could redistribute them to me for private use in Underground 2 only?

I was a huge Acceleracers fan back when it was still new, and still am. NFS Underground 2 is one of my favorite Racing Games of all time, so if you could do this for me I'd owe you big time.

(Ask the modeler, that is. I would never ask someone to break an agreement.)

Do you think you might be able to make it game compatible for Trackmania Canyon, or at least put the model on the internet?

It looks like a sweet game and the concept of being able to add your own cars is really cool. I am very busy at the moment but I'll look through some of the tutorials on the forum and I'll consider it if I feel the process is doable and isn't anything too difficult or time consuming.Β

My models tend to be a bit too high poly for most games. I've never heard of Trackmania and would have zero idea how to make it compatible. Also, I don't like to share my models. Sorry.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

NLRACER In reply to BlazingEclipse8 [2015-07-06 17:26:26 +0000 UTC]

ZBrush has a feature called retopology that can be used to reduce the poly-count without losing quality

I own all the Acceleracers movies. Oh man how cool Nolo's Synkro was. But I was sad when Vert sliced his. Deora II in half D:

Yeah, that was a bummer. Kurt's Sling Shot got destroyed as well, but they needed to get rid of the old cars to make way for the new ones.

Vert's Power Rage was always getting destroyed XD. Even in the very first episode of Battle Force Five his Power Rage was all busted up..... I loved that car so much. Other than that Kurt's Sling Shot crash could've killed him.

Sure, I can do a rear/side angle so you can get a more full picture of the car from the two together. If there's a specific angle that you'd like such as a more front faced or top view let me know.Β

Nicely done.I think I remember this car having a much more curvier front end.

Also a funny thing to note about this car is that it was stated to be rotary powered and yet it doesn't sound like any rotary engined car.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BlazingEclipse8 In reply to GrumpyI3unny [2014-08-11 19:05:51 +0000 UTC]

I don't remember ever hearing it was a rotary engine, that's cool. I thought I had just about nailed the front end but I did have little to go off of.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GrumpyI3unny In reply to BlazingEclipse8 [2014-08-11 22:31:32 +0000 UTC]

It was stated on the DVD that came with an Acceleracer hyper pod and car.Browsed the info and it stated it was a Rotary engined powered car that had 450-493 or so HP.

Hmm...I might try digging out my Synkro again and take pics of it if you want to make some adjustments to the model?
