Imagine this tree above as singleplayer video game like spider-man PS4 where you go from the bottom to the top fighting all these characters in a boss fight with nice story cut scenes and multiple heroes to play as depending on which part of the story you are at.

Important: characters are connected by STORYline not hierarchy or affiliation from which i took inspiration.

Final boss of phase 1 is Hate-Monger
Final boss of phase 2 is Dr. Doom
Final boss of phase 3 is Beyonder

You start game picking yourself from which branch you want to start the story for example hood's gang after beating every character from there you unlocks boss fight with the hood but also you can pick any other most bottom branch instead and start other part of the story (mix them)

one rule is that for example where you have red skull you can't fight him before beating every villain connected to him except hate-monger which is higher but this rule does not apply everywhere, maybe some other time i will write whole tree as text with character names to let know everyone when who you can fight after beating who as i think tree isn't the clearest.
