Emily`s Goodbye

Hauk was walking home, after taking a walk to visit Semema at Simle`s house. It was dark outside, the full moon hanging heavy and bright silver on the sky, and every star was lit. It was very cold out, so all he wanted was to get home. Home to Abyss…

He walked past some dead trees, bristling in the cold wind. He shivered, remembering where he had seen the likes of them – on a graveyard. And a certain girl appeared to mind.
He shook his head, trying to shake her off his mind. She was past now. He had moved on. And she was crazy…
Quickening his pace, he walked away as fast as he could.

But in a shadow of a tree in front of him, he saw a mass of long black hair, waving with the wind. He stopped; sucking his breath and feeling the goosebumps crawl over his skin as he saw her appear like a ghost out of the shadow. Her slender body was wrapped in a black cloak that flapped in the wind. Underneath she wore a black miniskirt dress, and her feet bare on the cold ground. She was dressed as if it was summer, though it was barely spring, still snow on the ground and ice on the road.
The steel grey eyes were locked on him, her pale hands reached out to him, and a tiny smile appeared on her pink lips.
- Hauk…
Her light and sweet voice sung his name. But he was not tempted to approach her – Abyss had met Ulvrek not long ago, and he had warned them about her. She wanted revenge for her broken heart.

She took a step forward to him, but he took a step back, flattening his ears and squinting at her with a threat not to come near. She was unpredictable, and he couldn’t trust her.
Emily saw this, lowering her arms, letting them hang by her sides like dead. And she lowered her head and gaze.
- Are you afraid of me now, Hauk? Your new lifestyle turned you to such a sissy?
- I ain`t a sissy! I’m just cautious!
He growled in his defence. Emily chuckled lightly, combing a lock of her hair behind her ear.
- I understand. I’m dangerous to you now… I can’t be killed. Or hurt… I’m dead already. Worthless…
Hauk swallowed, looking on her. She seemed so empty. Lost. Alone…

She looked up on him again.
- You know, I have dreamed of this moment for weeks now. To see you again… How many times I have imagined everything I wanted to do to you. Pulling you into a dark alley, cuffing you with shackles, abusing you sexually, harassing you, playing with your body until you begged me to stop, and making you suffer – Like I have. But I wont do that… I have died because I loved once, and drove him insane enough to gladly jump down 5 floors to get rid of me. I don’t want that… Not you.
Her eyes watered, and silver droplets fell from her eyes and on the cold ground.
- I didn’t mean anything to you, did I? I was just a girl… Who was madly in love with you. Like any other…
Hauk looked down. Her pained words came strangled out of her mouth. He hated watching women cry. It twisted inside him. He had nothing to say, and whatever he could wouldn’t be true or any good to her.
She wiped her eyes.
- My heart can be broken, though I am dead. I wish it couldn’t. I wish I could tear it out and throw it away… But I need it, unfortunately. I still have much to do. I make a difference somewhere. I am important there… On the `other side`.
She implied to the life after death. She smiled sweetly, holding around herself.
- There someone loves me. Ironic, isn’t it? In death, and right in front of me, I saw someone who loved me for who I was, not who I was trying to be. He won’t break my heart… And I am considering giving him a chance.
Hauk was pleased she had found someone new.

Emily took a step towards him, and now he didn’t step back. She closed up on him, standing on an arms length away. She looked longing into his brown eye, reaching out a hand to stroke his cheek. Despise the cold outside she was actually radiating warmth. It was tender, and nice against his cold skin. He closed his eye, letting her touch him this last time.
And before he knew it, the young girl embraced him in a tight hug. Her arms wrapped around his neck, and face buried in his chest.
- I envy Abyss so badly… I don’t hate him for this. I wish I could tell him that, but I cant… It’s too much already…
She sighed with a lump in her throat. Hauk returned the hug, feeling uneasy for her pain.

She released him, smiling up to him.
- This is my good-bye, Hauk. You will never see me again, I promise.
- Emily…
She put her finger to her lips in a hush, not wanting to know the end of his sentence. Only to remember how he spoke her name one last time.

The tears welled up in her silvery eyes as a dark mist embraced her, and she was gone with the wind… A crow in a tree nearby called, and it flew away, carrying a silvery bottle by a string tied to its feet.

Hauk stood there for a couple of minutes, staring into thin air. Then the cold reached his skin again, and he started walking home again…
