Voltaire is really hard to pin down musically. Dark cabaret? Sort of. If I had to put a name on it, where I didn't care about how it sounded, I'd say goth folk music. Either way, he's quite humorous, with an incredibly dark sense of humor. One also can't forget his amazing creativity and talent. I really can't say enough about him.

The image on Wiki is actually a shot by another San Francisco photography by the name of Jacob Applebaum. I'm pretty sure it's not one I took that night, but it's amazingly similar. I mean, to get that shot he would've had to stand exactly where I was standing when I took this image.

Best picture of him on DA. Yeah, he's listed as Dark Wave/Dark Cabaret, but his music overall is pretty strange. I only like some of his songs every so often, but maybe it's just because I prefer black metal.

Beautiful photo. The lighting behind him, making him look "Saint-like" really enhances this shot. What is really great about it is that even with that backlighting, his face is still visible and no a silhouette.
Voltaire has some of the greatest lyrics ever, I'd love to get the chance to see him in concert! Excellent job taking this shot!

I honestly couldn't say more about how much I love my 5D. It's awesome, and I've loved it since the moment I picked it up. Especially as when doing event photography, it's absolutely amazing because of it's performance at higher iso's.
I owe a lot of it to my lenses as well. This shot is the simple 50mm 1.4, but the other lenses I've used a lot are the 70-200 f2.8L (I rent), and the 35mm 1.4L which is really fantastic.

I know you're on a Canon, but do you think the Nikon 50mm 1.8 could compare to this? I'm on a D50 and looking to buy that lens soon. Want to be able to capture low light shots.

I actually used to shoot the 50mm 1.8 on a Nikon d70. Honestly I don't think it will necessarily compare to this.
The 1.4f allows you more leeway with sharpness. Also, this image was cropped in a bit. That's partially alowable because of the lense, but also because of the megapixels my camera shoots.
If you can afford it, buy the 50mm 1.4 that Nikon makes. I bought this lense used even and it works beautifully, so think of that as an option.

Thank you! This one was all about getting just the right positioning on the floor. I had to stand in front of people, but I try not to stay in one place for too long. A lot of event photography is anticipation.
