Quailspark has his first apprentice! He was so surprised when he was appointed with Echopaw. Was he ready for this kind of responsibility? He would do his best, he knew this for sure. Just yesterday he took Echo to tour Leafclan territory, and now the sun was just poking up from the horizon the next day.
He stretched, exiting the warriors den and padding toward the apprentice den. Quail poked his head in, looking for the apprentice's black and brown mottled figure. "Echopaw?" He mewed softly, his heart beating fast in excitement. Today was the day for the two to get up to some real training!

Echopaw had been so tired after he explored the territory with Quailspark. His legs and paws weren’t used to the exercise, so he had fallen asleep as soon as his head hit his nest. The tortoiseshell felt like his sleep only lasted a heartbeat, because before he knew it, it was morning and he heard Quailspark call out his name.
“Coming!” Echopaw yelped, as he jolted awake.
The new apprentice looked at his pelt in despair but didn’t have time to clean it properly. He groomed his chest very quickly, before he scampered out of the Apprentice’s Den and stood before Quailspark.
“I’m here,” Echopaw mumbled quietly as he stared at his paws, embarrassed and shy at his mentor seeing how unprepared he was.

Quailspark gave the apprentice a sympathetic look. "Why don't we do some stretching first? and we can take a second before we really head out." He didn't want to run his apprentice too hard. Quailspark did some example stretches, bowing down on all fours with his tail in the air, then stretching his back legs, raising his chest and face up toward the rising sun.
"I know you hurt a little, but I promise, after a week your paws get used to it." Quail assured Echopaw. "Did you sleep okay?"

Echopaw looked at Quailspark with gratitude in his eyes. He was a little stiff from sleeping in the same position all night and the pain in his soft paws sucked. So, when his mentor suggested they do some stretches, Echopaw was happy to comply.
The tortoiseshell watched Quailspark as he bowed down on all fours with his tail in the air and tried to copy him as best he could. He wasn’t as graceful as the grey tabby, but he felt his muscles relaxing. He then puffed out his chest and stretched his back legs as he looked to the sun but tried to steal glances at Quailspark in order to copy him better.
Once done, Echopaw resumed standing, his legs felt lighter, but his paws were still a little sore. The dark tom was grateful he didn’t have to walk on rocks like Highclan cats did, or he wouldn’t be able to walk for a moon.
“I slept really well,” Echopaw answered like he was confused at how tired he was, before the tom got quieter with embarrassment before he added, “Yeah, I didn’t think my paws would hurt so much. That doesn’t make me weak, does it?”

"That doesn't make you weak at all, Echopaw." Quail gave the apprentice a reassuring smile and blink. "Don't be hard on yourself, you're only begining." Quailspark lifted his tail in signal for his apprentice to follow him and started toward the camp's exit. "Today will be fun. We'll head towards the singing pond." Quailspark felt good getting out into the forest again. He could never get over how much he loved this place. They started trekking north toward the lake, the snow was just barley covering the ground now, so it made no problem for them besides being cold. The warrior walked at a casual pace, ears perked. "Step lightly, listen and watch for prey." He spoke softly.
