Description "So you're saying my memories have been tampered with?"

"I think it's very possible."

I did try with this one, but I may need to start smaller...
Anyway, this is my last crappy illustration for a bit.  I finally get to play with my comic again!

Hi there! I'm from project Comment, here to give you some feedback!
I really like the concept that you were going for, but I think the execution could be done a little better. If you just look at the top half of the image, the image makes a lot of sense to me. A girl is clinging to a boy she cares about as he is being deleted. The look of surprise and regret on the boy's face as he is being stolen away bit by bit is both haunting and beautiful. (I would personally buy a print of just his face, it's that good)
The textures you use across the piece are very intriguing and add a lot to the overall look of the artwork. I love the outer glow and blur that you use on the deleting bits. Very nice use of movement <3

The bottom half of the image is where the confusion lies for me.
I can tell that there are two characters, but it's hard to see where the characters begin and end. You use the same colour blue for the shirt of the girl and the boy's hood, which adds to the confusion. I also can't tell if either character has legs.
Then, there are three hands that I can see in this image, one on the far left of the image, one in the middle on the bottom, and one right up next to the girl's face, if I'm not mistaken. The far left hand is twisted in a way that makes it look very uncomfortable for whichever character it belongs to. I can't tell which character owns the hand on the bottom either. It's also unclear if it's a left or a right hand. The hand up next to the face also doesn't have a definite owner.
The only explanation I can come up with is that the hands are no longer attached to the characters, but are instead caught up in the whirlwind of deletion. If not, then be careful to sketch out your characters anatomy first to be sure it makes logical sense. If the anatomy is solid, then be careful not to add so many details or folds in clothing that could make the anatomy no longer clear.
The shading on the side of the girls face, under the teardrop and to the right of the hair tendril is strange. It makes the face appear lumpy or as if there is something on it that is distorting the look of the face. I cannot for the life of me figure out what that is, but I also feel like there is a logical reason for it being there.
What is going on on the bottom right of the image? Is that a shoe? A robot with a glowing red eye? What is that?

Side note:
Don't ever think that you should have started smaller! It can be easy to get discouraged when you know what you are trying to make and then you find that it isn't as clearly expressed as you wanted. The image of what your art is and should be is still in your head. Use whatever critique, criticism, advice, etc. that you are given and expand on your art until it is as gorgeous to everyone else as it is to you. And if your art is already exactly where you want it, then ignore all of us plebeians and know that you have created a piece of art beyond us mere mortals. If we don't understand your art, that's our loss. Picasso was misunderstood too, ya feel?

I really do like what you are doing with this piece. If you are up for it, go for a second draft! Keep up the great work!

Alright, so the first thing your comment tells me is that I probably way overused perspective blur on a piece where the effects were already abstracting the situation and the art style itself was abstracted.  This is good for me to know, because I'm kind of deeply confused by that effect.

I'm glad the emotions came through clearly, at least!  And since I spent quite a while trying to make things glow and playing with the deletion effect, the fact that you can at least tell what is going on is really, really heartening.  I kind of realized midway through this project that I had no idea how to convey the special effects I wanted to, and while I'm definitely going to try again, this picture definitely suffered for it.

I promise you that all the hands exist, though one ended up being obscured by a big poof of the boy's jacket, a detail which I figure got hopelessly lost in--as you said--all the detail (and then the perspective blur didn't help either).

The two characters have totally differently colored shirts--blue and green--and again, the fact that it was impossible to tell says a looooot about how much I screwed up this image.

I'm pretty sure that the lumpy bit on the girl's face is probably her nose.  I will definitely work on the clarity of my anatomy in the future!  I don't want things to get this confusing again.

Thank you so, so much for your helpful critique.  A fresh pair of eyes--especially after all the drama that went into this picture--is terribly helpful.  You've given me many things to work on instead of just agonizing over nebulous dissatisfaction, so I really must thank you for that.

Picasso may have been a misunderstood genius, but ultimately I create art to inspire the same feelings of awe and tragedy and wonder that my favorite art pieces inspire in me.  My goal will always be to create something that has enough clarity to express that sentiment, and I'll keep working until I can do it.  Every criticism helps, and this one helped more than most.

I think I really will try a second draft for this piece, if I haven't already deleted the original stuff out of my files.  I've spent most of this year trying to improve, and I would like to see how far I've come by the end of it.

Thank you again for your encouragement and helpful words (and I'm really sorry it took me so long to respond; I've been without internet for a while.)

Hey, I'm glad I could help you out!
You're response is helping me to figure out how I was seeing the picture wrong and it also proves that you have all the framework both on paper and in your head to make this image greater!
Whenever you get your second draft up and running, give me a shout, because I would love to see how this piece develops!

Also, if you ever need a second pair of eyes, are looking for a critique, or just want to chat, let me know. I like helping people

You did, you did!

I will definitely call on you again when I've completed the second draft.  Now I'm getting all fired up about it.

Thank you very much for the offer!  I could often use a critique--and I promise I'll try not to abuse that privilege.

Yeah, safe to say my experiment with effects did not go quite to plan...
I'm glad it's still visually interesting!  Thanks very much for checking it out!
