Hi
I think this is a great painting in many ways. I am a art student at a swedish university. I would like to ask some question about your art. If that is something you would like to do, get back to me.

This is the best butchers paper Ive ever seen. I think alot would be lost if this was to be done on canvas. Its freaky but the paper looks like flesh, then theres this very featal baby so together for me it has this life from death feel to it. A child who only just survives while the mother dies in labour. A very moving image

My wife would not be very happy with me if I did. Thank you for the compliment though.
I've considered redoing the piece on canvas, but as I have never finished the other three parts of the series, it seems unlikely that I would be unprocrastinating enough to actually do so.

Hello.

Your art piece is nice. I think that it is hard to paint a baby as a subject matter, but you did it great, impressive!

~ there is something so sad and eternal here - simply dying to get out. or is it getting out to die? either way a solitary reflection of man at his most vulnerable. Sincere congrats on DD. (and a perfect technique to match...)

This immediately reminded me of Prometheus, and how in Greek legend he saved the race of man from destruction, thus (in a sense) giving life to humanity. I always connect him with rock/mountains, too, because of his being chained to the mountains as punishment. So your combination of a child and mountainous forms is a perfect fit! This is an amazing piece. I like your collaging and ... whatever you did to make it, resists or what? No matter how you did it, I like it!

This reminds me alot of philisophical books I've been reading about recently.
First thing I thought of were philosiphers Holmes (sp?) and Kant.
Which reminded me of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.
Not only is this art really well done, it evokes, in me personally, alot of the things I've been thinking about recently.

It looks to me also as if the child? in the painting is grounded on a solid area, moving towards it slowly and away from the wavy area at the top, which is not only a stunning effect, but it makes me think of evolution from ameobea to what we are today...something which has been in the media recently because of the reawakening of that whole Creationism VS Darwininism (aka Intelligent Design VS Evolution).

I'd be amazing to know exactly what the artist thought at the time, though I'm guessing by his personal comments at the top, he doesn't disclose it all that much.

In any case, an excellent piece, excellent design, good layout, good effects and excellent at provoking thought.

on butcher paper??
geesh. how unique!
what type mixture did you add to your oils?
something fast drying? slow drying?
i love the sectioned look you've created as well.
did you sketch it off and then add rips of paper according to the
contours of the anatomy?
man. it's perfect.
beautiful work.

it's good to see an actual painting get a daily deviation. i like your approach alot and the softness and apperance of transparancy even thouh there really isn't any transparancy. it's really nice. Do you ever work by using tracing paper as a way to soften colors? i think we work in kind of the same way but not. anyway really nice work. I like how it takes a while to actually understand the image..becuase when i first saw it i thought it was an abstraction of a man's face and shoulders..because the top of the head looks kind of like there's another face in it. Clever!
