Description Two uploads in one day? World must be ending.

This is just a WIP of lines, I'm going to paint this digitally at some point hopefully, but detail is so much easier traditionally for me.  Given the amount of detail I put into this, it actually did not take me as long as I thought, given I started it last month ( i have stuff from years ago I still haven't finished)  and worked on it mostly on 15 minute breaks at work.  My wrist just complains it took forever.  What a weiner, right?

I forced myself to do an art piece I could actually like and put time into, because I feel distant from drawing anymore, or that I rush too much.  Which I do but hey.  So I drew my character Chorin in its true form.  For those that do not know, Chorin is Death in my story.  I haven't drawn its full, non decayed true form in forever, and I can see that Chorin has changed substantially, not only in design but style.  Granted it is a bit over stylized here for dramatic effect.

I have been up for 2o hours.  Now I must pass out.

But damn, for real- the details on this ho's pubes fur !
I cannot fucking wait to see this coloured, especially its eyes since I know that they'll really pop out. Fuck man, you not only make the most wicked characters but draw the breast art of them as well. That snake ass body is even hawter than the mirror Petter's uses to look at her butt hole with

Oh shit gurl, that comment is 'bout the hottest shit I ever got next to the VD I got from Petters ^~^
Ahahhaa I also love that you used pubes in both yo comments   I really need to finish coloring like...9 things in photoshop that are pretty much done--I just need to add shading and light, but I'm too faqing lazy.  Also glad you like his snakier ass body, but I dunno if its as hawt as petter's bootyhole mirror.

Ah how did I miss this! I love Chorin!!! The amount of detail in the hair is impressive! I like the dragon-like appearance he's taken on.

ahhaa Thank you very much Cooley! It is good to hear from you, since you have always been Chorin's #1 fan haha  I am very glad I did the hair traditionally, I think it would have killed me digitally.  I also like the more dragonish appearance as well.  It was something I wanted to try out, and I think it makes him more powerful/mystical looking type of thing versus the shorter stubbier look the design had when I first drew it years ago.

I have heard a lot of Weasly lately, but I do not have an account.  It used to be by invite only so I never really tried to get one.  I guess I do not know what it's all about, it looked like FA to me but with a much nicer layout. A lot of friends have asked me to join there, but I am not sure if I want to--I did not really enjoy FA too much so if it's like that I don't think I'll like it.  Have you enjoyed it so far?

cooley In reply to Blitz32 [2014-02-11 21:40:20 +0000 UTC]

I didn't know it was invite only - that must have been a while back. I was hesitant about FA and still have some qualms about using the site. The interface is difficult to use at times and much of the content doesn't interest me. However, people are generally very nice there and I usually get decent feedback/interest in the works I post. Weasyl is even moreso - the layout makes it easy to use (both on the computer and on my phone, which is great b/c I'm often on the run and can't keep up with dA all the time b/c it's difficult to use on the phone, as is FA). Everyone is super nice and the amount of feedback I get when I post journals and art is a much higher ratio than views vs. comments/favs here. For that, I think it's worth it. But, at the same time my reasons for joining was to "refresh" my interest in art and connect with other artists b/c I feel like I've lost track of all that happens here on dA.

Yea when it first came out it was an invite only thing...like some people joined then had so many invites they could give out a month.  I had been offered by someone once and they told me that, so I guess that's how it worked.  I never took them up on it since I was gunshy as I said after joining FA.  I mean it is a decent site, the layout is definitely confusing, but most the people on there that commented on my stuff were extremely friendly and helpful with feedback.  I was not quite into the content, but that sounds really nice about Weasyl, that it is similar to both dA and FA, with content and layout laying somewhere between the two almost.  I do miss the amount of feedback I used to get here...I mean constructive feedback.  I appreciate any and all comments, but sometimes its nice ot have helpful comments as well.  I feel the same as you with dA, I try to come on here, and I pretty much try to comment on friends things here and there, but other than that I've lost a lot of connection and feeling I think I need to work on getting back before I try another site as well, but I will definitely try to check out Weasyl as well.  A fresh new outlook would be great!

Oh my gosh - this message is a year old and was still in my message center. I'm sorry I didn't catch it long ago!

I think not joining FA is wise. I have an account there but it is inactive for the most part. People are nice there, but the site's functionality is frustrating.  Where do you find you are most active? Here? Weasyl? Elsewhere?

Blitz32 In reply to cooley [2015-02-28 07:12:29 +0000 UTC]

hahah that's okay, at least you commented back on it.  I think if I had year old messages I would just wipe the slate clean and give up on them ahhaa
I did have an FA for awhile, but the community and layout didn't click with me.  I ended up starting a weasyl as well, which I really like the layout more, and the community is still similar to FA but a slight bit less intense.  I actually have most my activity here versus weasly or tumblr, but I credit that to the fact that I am most active here versus the other places.

But if you're going to colour it digitally then I'll accept is as an awesome wip. HM HM!
My mind would've just gone crazy with those details in the fur an all. OuO
I love how his body is all twisted, like a squirming snake, and his desing is awesome!
I wish Death would actually look like that...then I could say: atleast I met the awesomeness in th end. Haha!
Great job with this Syd! Can't wait to see it finished! <3

Yes! Show me your WIPs! hahaha I know what you meant, but I do enjoy your WIPS hahahaha
I could leave it at that, but I thought it would be fun to color, because I like to leave a lot of things at the black and white level. Plus I think the character and motion might make a bit more sense with the color present.
My poor hand went crazy with the details, it was like, ' are we done YET?'  I'm glad he looks like a slithery snake though, I really wanted his design to be more snakish/dragonish. Also haha that would be weird if Death looked like that! But I kind of like the black swan idea too ahhaa

This is amazing.  I love the designs for your characters, they're always so unique and unexpected.  And I've come late to the comments proving the world hasn't ended.  Or maybe it has and nobody told me.  I could see that happening.

Incidentally, this confirms (as if I needed confirmation) that I must commission more dragons from you.     Unless the world ended, then I guess it's moot.

I must have missed the memo haha  And hopefully I get some more free time soon, because I pretty much love your dragons hahaa

You're welcome.  I find them very original and interesting.  Sometimes when we live with something for so long, it becomes old hat and feels cliche.  There are times when I'm writing and I'm thinking, "My God, can I get anymore trite?"  Then I walk away for a bit to clear my head.  I find that helps.  Actually, I find taking long (or not so long) walks to be a great way to get my head in a place for writing and creativity.  I love walking in the woods before writing the Benedanti stuff.  Werewolves, woods, I don't get the connection. LOL.

And yeah, you said posting two things meant the end of the world.  But the world's just stubborn that way I guess.

Blitz32 In reply to Scealai-Storyteller [2013-11-25 15:41:15 +0000 UTC]

I think you are right.  I get so used to being around my world that I think it gets cliche sometimes.  Or there are times I think it is original and a new show comes out that says something similar adn I'm like I'M CLICHE or feel people will think that's where I got the idea, even though I have had these characters and stories since about 2000 or before.  Walking does help a lot I think as well, just getting alone and quiet time to think helps haha  I find I think of a lot of dialogue or plot traits while I'm in the shower   Which is sad because I can't write it down then before it escapes my brain!
And OH okay, see how attentive I am? I didn't even remember what I had said hahhahaha

One thing to remember is there's nothing new under the sun.  Anything anybody is going to say/write/art/whatever was probably done at some point previously.  The key is to find a way of doing it in your own style.  Originality comes as much in how we say something as what we're saying.  Bringing a new perspective on things is creative and can make something completely original.  That's part of the reason really good art bears the mark of its maker and their experiences.  One thing nobody has, or can have, is your experience, worldview, and voice.  When art is created through the filter of the artist's experience it becomes unique.  Part of the problem with that is that putting yourself on the line can be painful.  Also, I think a lot of artists/writers lack the confidence to believe in their own voice so they copy someone else.  I think that's unfortunate as they are depriving the world of something only they have to offer.  Also, the commitment and work it takes to develop your voice is immense.  It's taken me years to get to where I'm at in terms of storytelling, and I've still got a lot to learn.  But that's the great thing about life, there's always more to learn.

Sorry, so rambled there...

Blitz32 In reply to Scealai-Storyteller [2013-12-08 17:23:03 +0000 UTC]

You are right about that, there is very little anymore that is completely original, that no one has seen or heard before type of thing.  Style is also a major factor in it, but sometimes I also find it hard when you are in a sense inspired by an artist/author, and unconsciously you mimic their style.  Eventually it morphs into your own, but I think a lot of the originality of people hinges on the creativity of others as well.  I try to keep confidence in what I am doing, but you are right about putting yourself on the line being painful...because you fear what others will think about your originality and creativity.  I think that's why I get so conscious about my works, when I see parts of other stories similar to wording or content as mine...I'm like..I FAIL at originality, and then I believe those that read it will think, "This is basically a rip of so and so's book or idea...' hahha
I am still very new to story telling, and while I do know I have found my voice through my characters, I am still learning and it still changes as well while I am writing, but I also know I have room for some vast improvement still...especially with grammar and writing to pull the reader in.  I tend to over describe I think, and make it more of an account at times than a story. The few people that have read my story say otherwise, but I see it when I read.
And haha no worries, I do not consider it a rambleointless blathering.  There is very good advice and truth in what you have wrote =]

Scealai-Storyteller In reply to Blitz32 [2013-12-16 00:14:54 +0000 UTC]

I get what you mean about copying another artist's style.  I don't know if you've ever read comic strip Bloom County, but the artist acknowledged a great debt to Doonesbury.  Even going so far as too accidentally mimic some of the strips.  So it happens, even to professionals.  I know I have to be careful with it myself with my favorite authors.  Just be gently with yourself about it, 'cause it's a problem I think everybody faces.

Everybody also has room for improvement.  I think we truly start to die inside if we decide we've learned everything.  I remember reading scientist saying at about the time of Einstien that everything that good be discovered in physics had been and people should find new avenues of study.  While I do agree that new avenues of study should always be explored, clearly physics still had a lot to offer.

Thanks Thomas Freeman! To be honest I'm rather impressed that the detail scanned as well as it did, usually I have to tweak and darken and lighten things, but then it gets grainy and unclear, so I'm glad my lines were dark enough to see this time.  I used B pencil lead instead of 2 hard, so maybe that had something to do with it.  It smeared a lot more, which was a pain, but the darker lines were a nice trade off.

VengefulDead In reply to Blitz32 [2013-11-14 20:37:52 +0000 UTC]

I just picked up some 2H lead. I'm hoping it helps limit some of the smearing and fading that I'm getting with HB. Do you need cover paper to protect the drawing from smearing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Blitz32 In reply to VengefulDead [2013-11-15 04:05:11 +0000 UTC]

Is cover paper like a pro item or something? or jjust a piece of paper to cover in general? When drawing this I used a  piece of computer paper to put between my hand and the drawing when working on it ,and also to put between to slow smearing down a bit...but it didn't help a ton.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

VengefulDead In reply to Blitz32 [2013-11-15 04:20:44 +0000 UTC]

I just meant a piece of paper or some acetate to keep your hand from having direct contact with the graphite. That's too bad that it didn't help a lot, but the final drawing doesn't look like it has much smearing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Blitz32 In reply to VengefulDead [2013-11-15 04:34:04 +0000 UTC]

I went through and cleaned it up prior to scanning, and then I cleaned it up again in photoshop in the negative space.  It didn't smear to bad...mostly the lines nad detail got duller, so I also went back over it before scanning. I sprayed the drawing with fixatif now though so it stays put, but I can still dink with it if I feel the need.  Fixatif is the best thing ever.
