Dunno know how to categorize this? It isn't traditional or digital, it's both, and it's fanart but it doesn't adhere to the designs from the movie or comic or novel. o__o So... whatever, I guess. *braces for category nazis* I wish there was an animal category. If there's anthro, there should be animal.I used to have an old vhs tape of The Last Unicorn. It was recorded off of tv programming, so it had commercials from the late 80s. XD I watched this movie so much as a child, I can still sing the jingle from one of the commercials. (The jingle was about AK, I don't remember what the jingle was marketing though.) 80s commercials from Alaska are pretty unique things. O_o
This is a true mixed media piece. Half traditional, half digital.

Kind of posting this to force myself to be done with it. I haven't posted in a month and a half because everything I've been working on has been really difficult and I've ruined most of the things I've taken on and had to redraw them. I'm in such a piss poor mood over it, I could do something violent. Instead of doing anything violent, I'm just going to post this and slink back into the shadows to deal with my stupid art that can't do anything right.

I like the dynamic picture you've done here showing the epic struggle between Amalthea and the red bull. That creature terrified me as a kid and it was so satuisfying to see him beaten at the end.

This is wonderful work so don't beat yourself up any more. Sometimes we just have to call a piece of work finished, even if it doesn't always feel like it. Personally I think that's where the real test lies within, the ability to say "that's enough, it's good the way it is"
I love this movie. Right up there with all the other great 80's fantasy films

The style of the unicorn in original is great, but I like your unicorn really much too.

By the way this is not fan art, it's illustration. You're drawing your own take on a novel, not emulating someone else's take. Common mistake and very annoying for us illustrators!

It *is* a really annoying point of contention. 8( Mostly, it seems like a lack of vocabulary to describe differences in subject matter. "Fanart" tends to describe anything at all based on previously copyrighted material. The term doesn't discuss whether the final result is a completely redesigned concept, an execution of a prior concept in a new composition, or a strait up trace of a naruto animation scene. :/ Obviously one of these things tends to typify the fanart genre and cause it to be frowned upon.
