He's from the Railway Series books written by Christopher Awdry. The Works Diesel is never named, but it is known that he is really friendly and even James, who had a dislike for diesels, couldn't help but become friends with him. There is just something about the Works Diesel that makes all the engines like him. He is reffered to as the Works Diesel cause he helps take broken down engines to the works for them to be repaired. He is one of many characters from the Railway Series who would've made an awesome character in the show, Thomas and Friends.Related content

Actually... On the page about the Works Diesel on Thomas the Tank Engine Wikia... There's an illustration from the book that shows the Works Diesel's face.
