Father-son -relationship is just heartwarming ^^ <3 might be that in the near future I redo this pic 'cause I know some anatomy mistakes it has but for now I didn't care too much since I liked the idea more
. And yes, Weed actually was THAT small when he & GB met very first time. Weed didn't ever think GB as his father, but GB still did adopted him for a while

This is so adorable! I always loved the relationship between Weed and GB. I remember in the anime, when it was revealed that GB is Weed's godfather, everyone was surprised and amazed, while GB played it down like 'no big deal', 'nothing special', 'why the fuss??' XDD. They both, Gin and GB, play important parts in Weed's life. It's great to see them united on one picture <3.

Indeed. Though tbh, I think the anime version of GNG is MUCH better than the manga, namely because it got rid of some of the padding [killer monkeys, romantic interests, a Russian dog invasion] and made it a straightforward coming-of-age story. GDW's story and main cast are good, don't get me wrong, but the animation was just bleh and the manga didn't seem to be my cup of tea.

I'm sorry, I went just a bit confused ^^' you say that GNG anime is better than the manga, but those things that you mention (killer monkeys, russian dogs etc) are in GDW manga, not GNG.
And no, I don't actually get you wrong at all!
But GDW anime, I can't even talk about...x_x It has some tiny plusses, but for my taste it was just horrible. I think it was bleh too xD and it did so many things wrong that the original manga did right.
What about GNG, I think the anime is great even though it also ha problems and manga is great too. Though the GNG mangas whole wolf-section was once again; just horrible for my taste. And this is big thing for me, 'cause I love wolves and had great expectations for it. But it was just so unnecessary for the whole entity.
So in the end; GNG and GDW are lovely, awesome and nostalgic series for me but I also give the much constructive criticism xD

Actually, now that I think about it, I can see why. I quit reading after the first chapter because Orion was SO annoying. But yeah, if they redid Weed, that would be sweet.

It's a shame, really. Let's say a sequel series starring those characters were to be possible, I'd give the spotlight to Sirius and get rid of Rigel [since he's basically the same character as Orion, just painted black], giving his role in the story to Bellatrix.

Maybe it's burnout. There's only so many ways you can make an 'asshole' character likable, and 'being funny' isn't one of them. Takahashi's great when it comes to writing headstrong, yet kind characters [Gin] arrogant, yet honorable 'samurai' dogs [Boss, Cross, Kotetsu], or wise mentor figures [Ben]. Rigel and Orion, on the other hand, not so much.
Honestly, out of Weed's four kids, I can see either Sirius [using Rigel's colors] or Bellatrix [with some MAJOR character development] as better protagonists than Orion.

Aah, you said so many good points I don't even know where to start!
Firstly, it's so true that there are some, only few ways to make an 'asshole' -character likable. If Orion is just "funny" or trying to be one, it usually just ends up being annoying and Orion really is that. It's just so frikkin' shame that Takahashi had to make him as protagonist. I don't mind if character has some edge, but Orion's attitude is just...Well, again; annoying.
And so true; I think Takahashi has his own great way of making certain kind of characters. Like all those you mentioned ^^ he is really good at those. But yeah, with Orion and Rigel, he failed. I also don't like the fact that the only female puppy of the protagonists is the crybaby. She should be with her brothers, fighting and adventuring like them! And I hope it will change to that way, the series is still going on.
And now that I think about it...If Orion and Rigel would be just and only side characters, I wouldn't mind this thing nearly as much as I do. Because just like in GNG and GDW; there are some characters that I don't like. But because they have only little roles, I don't concentrate on them. But if we have an protagonist that is just failed one...Then the whole series is kinda ruined. No-one likes to follow a main character that isn't likable.

Besides, why did protagonist need to be Riki's and Yukimura's copy..? We finally had a blackcoloured puppy; something COMPLETELY new from the silver -and redfurred ones. Also; we finally had a FEMALE puppy, something completely new. I don't count Cross and Reika 'cause they never were protagonists. Rigel and Bellatrix are, even though the spotlight hits Orion most of them all, unfortunately. Orion just brings nothing new to the table with his colouring and yet at the same time, brings something horribly new with his brain wrenching personality.

Indeed, indeed. Hell, that would be a great idea for an OVA adaptation of Ginga Densetsu Bellatrix or Ginga Densetsu Sirius. And no, I don't think this sequel should cling onto the coattails of the original.

If they are gonna make something, then I hope it could be that kind of OVA, but otherwise I definitely don't want Orion to become an anime. I wish the whole series would end up already and maybe, just maybe, make a little story about Orion's son. And THAT character would be a good one. I'm wishing this only 'cause I don't want Ginga -series to end in a bad note because of Orion.

Hmm, that's difficult. Alright than. My favorite characters are Gin, Moss, the Tora Brothers, Cross, Ben, GB, Luke, Smith, Jerome, Kyoshiro, Weed, John, Benizakura, and perhaps the best character in GDW, Hiro the Ballsnatcher. My least favorite characters would have to be Sniper, since he's little more than a bully with a superiority complex.

Really cool characters ^^ I'd have to say, guess my top fav one would be Akame, and then without any order; Gin, Weed, Jerome, Tesshin, Kyoshiro, George, Bat, Kisaragi and Suiga. My least fav, well that's a bit hard to say...I got so many neutral characters that are ok, better or less. I know that Mel and Orion annoy me mostly. Most of the bad guys are nasty too, like Kamakiri. Mm, I did hate that one monkey character from GDW, Tobizaru.

And that's the problem; the Ginga books are chockfull of great characters, mixed in with bad ones. Never any middle ground with characterisation, either they're multilayered, interesting and sympathetic, or bland and/or annoying.

Oh yeah and then there's still one thing that's one of my least favorite things, one of my hate-able things, but the problem is not with the character, but the colouring. The feared "blue" Weed...(and also Gin and kinda any grayshaded character in GDW anime)

Riki was an awesome character. I kid you not, I almost bawled my eyes out when he got killed. No wonder I once said that the Silver Fang series is Hokuto No Ken with Dogs.

Yeah he really was, great leader and his death was so sad x.x hoo, well I never heard about that series before, I just quickly googled it now xD but yeah, one big reason why I hate GDW anime, or at least why it was disappointment for me, is the fact how it confused many people to think that Weed actually is a blue-furred dog. It is so stupid. He is just as silvergrey like Gin, just a bit darker in manga. The "blue" colour in manga's some covers are just artist's personal way to shade the colour gray, just like sometimes people add blue light to black colour.
Besides, in manga's colour pages, Weed has his natural silvergray fur, he ain't blue. In that same logic, Gin also is not blue, even though GDW anime portraits him that way. But still so many poeple colour Weed as blue dog, there aren't blue dogs in existence. It just makes me really mad, I blame the anime and narrow-minded artists who don't get this xD .
