Description
For contest. [link]When I think of Ireland, I think of the rocky coast, grassy fields, and big working draft horses. So, of course, I had to draw my favorite draft horse, a Gypsy Vanner, for this piece. Also, they originate in Ireland, all the better to fit the contest.
This took a loong time, but I'm pretty happy with it.

Agreed, definitely one of your best pieces. I love the way you did the background, definitely more depth to this than your last background pictures. The horse looks awesome.

Thanks so much, I was definitely trying to achieve more depth in this piece and I'm glad to hear that you think I pulled that off.

By far some of your best work , you did a really nice job with background and the focus. The horse is wonderful, and the coloring is very well done.
I suppose if you want a critique at all, just more color usage. Of course it really depends on what you want out of the piece, it looks good as is. As I said before, just messing around with backgrounds will really help (I know I need to!), specially with different textures and lighting. Your perspective is pretty good, especially as you don't have the horizon right in the center (which gives a person new perspective and it generally makes the picture more interesting), and you know how to bring focus to what you want in the piece. So you seem to be improving and do very well , as always practice, practice, practice!

Thanks Revs!
Yeah, I can see what you're talking about with the color usage. I'd like to say that I intentionally made the background more dull so the horse could stand out more and because it's usually kind of gray and rainy in Ireland. But, I probably still could have splashed a bit more color here and there.
Yup, backgrounds just get easier as you do them more. You just gotta jump in and get your feet wet and then you realize that they're not that bad.
Thanks for the lovely comment, I always look forward to hearing what you have to say

Yeah, I'm always timid about critiquing because people do things a certain way or for a reason .
Too true! they're quite fun to do and mess around with!
