So she is the unattainable bright light, and he is just a shadow amongst the darkness who will make himself known and get to her despite the odds against him? Or am I reading too much into the painting like usual?

Great composure here! The darkness is intriguing, and the overall look is hellish and evil. You seem to do dark art anytime it's not space art xD
