I think a lot of people feel the way we do about DiDio. Ted Kord fans, Nightwing fans, Wally West fans, Donna Troy fans, etc.

It's also the reason why i only read DC comics from before the New 52.

Not really. I want the "old" DC Universe back (pre-DiDiot).

Well, in DC's latest "crossover event" we're introduced to Thomas Kord and learn that his son (presumably Ted) is attending Northwestern University. So, there is a possibility that Ted Kord might be back in the Nu52.

I really, really don't like whizkids... (Excepting the original Will Robinson, Bill "Don't call me 'mummy'" Mumy -- he acted like a real kid and not a punkass {see the Lost in Space feature film Will Robinson}, douchebag, or Gene Roddenberry's idealized self, Wesley Crusher.)

They're... annoying and unrealistic.

Even those of us who are nerds want them dead, dead, too...

Jaime Reyes is the past decade's "Kyle Rayner" if the Reyes fans don't get it. He's Wesley Crusher in a bug suit. Any time an editor takes it upon himself to shit all over a character and replace him with a younger version or ethnic character longtime fans WILL and DO take it personally*...
... and MARVEL AND DC STILL DON'T GET THIS...
... and the 3% of comic book fans who actually think Marvel and DC are doing the rest of us great shakes with these boneheaded moves are annoying to the other well over 50+% that don't like the arbitrary character deaths and replacements.

Most of us don't care for political correctness or character quotas...
We DO like well-written characters and classics, yes, but don't tell me you're replacing a 50-year-old character with [insert this year's aggrieved sexual or ethnic minority character] because it inflates the ego of a writer or editor or MIGHT attract the attention and adoration of 10 assholes who don't even regularly buy comics or otherwise give a shit!!!!
That's JUST STUPID...!
Keep the identity politics and all the other personal/F'D UP emotional baggage issues out of the stories and deliver with storylines and characterizations that are actually true to the character and entertaining!!!!!!

What is so damn difficult to understand about those basics??????

*(Lantern fans can relate; it took ten years and the withdrawal/retirements/reassignments of several DC editors and the rise of Geoff Johns before Hal Jordan was allowed to be the primary Green Lantern in the DCU again; 10 years before the GL Corps and mythos were reinstated -- along with allowing the original Alan Scott character to be called Green Lantern again, too; and no, what James Robinson is writing in Earth-2 is NOT the character Martin Nodell created)

I personally think that Jaime is on of the few good example of having an ethnic replacement.
Not because he is non-white, but because i think he is a good character.
But most ethnic replacements or race, gender or sexuallity changes are just terrible.

The real reason why Ted Kord is RetGone is because Dan DiDio wanted that Jaime Reyes was the one and only Blue Beetle.

adamantis [2012-03-25 01:05:03 +0000 UTC]

I was suprised when they killed him in the comics. I felt Ted Kord should have been a gift for decent writers, since he could work in both comedy and serious stories in a way some characters can't. DC's refusal to bring him back is a pity.

can you make another with Dan Garrett? as I think he is in the same boot

Jaime is a great character and my favored of the 3 Ted is my least favored (but I love them all)
What made Blue Beetle so great was the whole legacy surrounding them. I just don't think Jaime works so well without his role models batman sucks as one.

I think DiDio finally figured out that as long as Ted was still being mentioned, even in passing, Jaime was always going to be compared to him. And according to the latest Top 50 ComicBookResources has done, more fans still like Ted.

Go Ted!

"Dan DiDio says that Ted Kord doesn't exist in the DCnU."

I need more proof of that. Dan Didio doesn't even know what he's talking about most of the time...
Let's wait for Jaime's comic in a few. Perhaps there's gonna be a mention of either Ted/Dan's legacy or the fact they don't exist anymore...
(the writer on his book did say it was a continuation of the previous Jaime book, kicking Ted out of continuity would change his history drastically...)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

blubeetle3 In reply to theEyZmaster [2011-09-11 15:19:00 +0000 UTC]

From everything I've been hearing, Jaime will be the first Blue Beetle in the DCnU. Yet another reason to hate the DCnU.
