November 2007: Hitmonlee tutorialPlease visit my site to view the full tutorial
Here are some poses of Hitmonlee. There is a picture of him jumping up and forward, landing on hands and feet and performing a broad sweeping kick in the sky (left bottom). I also included a shot of Hitmonlee's back and of him landing on his bum. Ok, so maybe that last pose isn't exactly characteristic, but it's funny. Hitmonlee is a fighting-type, so he needs to get in close to attack, right? That also makes him vulnerable for counterattacks, so I thought it made sense to also draw him getting hurt. When I drew him getting hit, it looked like he got smacked down on his bum. So I left is like that... Heheh...
Anyway, when drawing Hitmonlee pay attention to his body proportions. Hitmonlee must always seem fast and nimble, but not overly muscular. You can achieve this by emphasizing on his feet and legs and drawing attention away from his torso. So his legs and feet need to be relatively long and his body needs to be quite lean. Take a look at how I drew Hitmonlee's legs. They're shapeless and seem to bend like tubes. They can also strech in battle, so feel free to play around with them.
