Entry for: *PokemonSuperContests
Cute category, Round 1 (dress up)
Sub theme: Spring fun
Entrant: Nami, the Rattata (and her trainer Matt)

Here's my first entry for the PokΓ©mon Super Contests, held on dA. It's the cute category, so I entered Nami. Seemed like the most obvious choice. Heh.
Anyway, the sub theme is 'Spring fun'. I think most people will enter happy, cheerful pictures of their PokΓ©mon frolicking in fields of pretty flowers in various neon-colors, so I decided to try something else. You know spring isn't just about the sun shining, the flowers blooming and birds chirping, right? Spring is also all about rain. At least it is in most parts of the world. So here's Nami, sporting her rain gear, because she honestly doesn't care what the weather is like. She'll have fun either way. ^__^

By the way, I doubt that my entries for the second and third rounds will be quite as elaborate as this one (the background wasn't exactly easy to make). Just so you know.

Heh, awww how I hated the stuck-in-the-mud bit. Seriously, I think they just put that in there to annoy us.

ha They probably did. I can picture it too. Them thinking of ways to piss us off.

Well, nothing can surpass the little stunt they pulled with that design flaw in Gold and Silver (and probably Crystal too).

Maybe you've heard of it. It was the first PokΓ©mon game to feature a clock system. For some reason the game's battery was hooked up to the hard drive, containing your save file. Everything worked fine as long as you kept playing, but if you stopped playing for several years, the battery would run out (it normally recharges as you play). When that happens it wipes the save file.

I lost over 200 level 100 PokΓ©mon that way. I'm not saying I wasn't a little crazy for owning that many, but still... That severely ruined my... entire month, actually.

ha I know what you mean. I still have my Gold version and my file was wiped too. it sucked but i always end up starting over anyway.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Uncia In reply to mittensforthekittens [2009-05-11 07:41:41 +0000 UTC]

You started over? I hear the battery usually needs at least a few dozen hours worth of recharging before it can even handle holding a save file again. If you just start over on an empty battery, the save file is just lost within a few minutes after switching off. Is that true? Did you spend some time recharging the battery before you restarted?

I would have restarted my Silver too, despite the bad memories and stuff, but I really couldn't be bothered to let my Gameboy sit there for several hours, just to recharge that stupid little battery.

I hear that they are making remakes of Gold and Silver for the DS now. Normally I'm not a big fan of remakes, but I'm actually a little excited about playing these.

... I don't know. I played for a few minutes and shut it off... i haven't played it again since... I hope it didn't wipe again.. I should check.. but i have to fiiind it. Gosh I didn't know you had to give it hours to recharge... NOOOOOO.

I know i want the remakes too. The second generation pokemon are my favorites and they had the best legendaries!

Blue-Uncia In reply to mittensforthekittens [2009-05-12 07:20:04 +0000 UTC]

It's what I heard. If the battery has really run dry, then it needs some serious recharging before it becomes usable again. That's why I haven't even tried it yet, you know? Since the game can't be played on the DS, it would mean that I would have to recharge it in my GBA, or worse, my old Gameboy. They both run on actual batteries, dang it! Rechargeable ones, but still. I think it would take at least several runs on either machine, completely exhausting their batteries, to get my Silver game up and running again.

Do I think that's worth the effort? No sir, I don't. I hope you find your game and that it still has its save file.

First and second gen were my faves. Maybe that's because I have so many fond memories of them. It's also why, when Firered and Leafgreen came out, my Firered became my 'base file' so to speak, while I restarted my Sapphire to collect more legendaries for it. I just like Kanto so much better than Hoenn, I feel more comfortable there. I'm pretty sure that SoulSilver would become my base file too, so I could restart Diamond. XD

I hope it'll have Kanto in it again, just like it did in the original G/S.

hmmm i bet it probably erased again. i had no idea that it did that but it's ok. I don't really care much about it since i can't trade any of those pokemon to my new games. thats why i'm so excited for the remakes. I really want Heart Gold. I can't wait for them to come out.

Blue-Uncia In reply to mittensforthekittens [2009-05-13 07:16:08 +0000 UTC]

I was so angry when I found out that you couldn't trade the 2nd gen pokes to the 3rd gen games. I thought it was really unfair. I mean, I understand that it was difficult, because the game mechanics of the two games differed greatly. They had a different IV and EV system, as far as I recall. What I don't understand is why they couldn't just figure out a way to have those stats translated to suit the needs of the newer games. It's not like I really needed to be able to trade my pokes BACK to Silver.

So why couldn't there be a system like D/P's Pal Park? I mean, sheesh.

But I agree, I'd really like to see Soul Silver too. If it's anything like Firered and Leafgreen, they'll also use the opportunity to improve on D/P. FR and LG for instance had a much better interface (and interface style, for that matter), than R/S.

I know same with me. What was the whole purpose of working my ass off raising those pokemon if i couldn't trade them to my new game? at least they're making up for it with the new release.

sacridshadow In reply to Blue-Uncia [2009-05-01 06:10:30 +0000 UTC]

Water is one of the hardest thing to draw. lol I can barely see myself drawing Nami well. lol I haven't drawn well in over two years now. lol

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Uncia In reply to sacridshadow [2009-05-01 07:23:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, drawing well really revolves around drawing regularly, so that you keep practising. XD

I pretty much draw every single day, now. But I want to tone it down a bit, 'cause there are so many other things I want to do as well. For instance, I have about a dozen unplayed PS2 games in my cupboard. Lol.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sacridshadow In reply to Blue-Uncia [2009-05-01 23:41:57 +0000 UTC]

a dozen eh? lol the reason I probably don't draw much is because I'm terrible, and I don't like seeing myself fail at it. Either that or I try too hard to make it look good, and it doesn't. lol I made a wolf picture that looks awesome in seventh grade. I had drawn it from a WOW picture of a tauren hunter with his wolf. the onl problme I have is the tail and head. I can't copy the head. lol

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Uncia In reply to sacridshadow [2009-05-02 14:03:22 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm, I didn't particularly like to draw things I wasn't good at, and I didn't like showing the result when I was done either. That was years ago.

Lots of practice later has made it so that I feel more comfortable drawing now.

sacridshadow In reply to Blue-Uncia [2009-05-04 05:17:22 +0000 UTC]

hopefully this weekened. I plan on drawing a rattata like Nami. I find it awesome that rattata can have blizzard and thunder. Hard to imagine a rat with electricity coming from it's fur.

My brother saw the first episode of the pokemon series (again)and he made a great joke. "Pikachu, the fat rat pokemon". You'd have to see pikachu in the first episode. XD love it. I'm glad they improved his look. I even liked the original team rocket, before they made them wimpy and more pathetic. Now I just hope they actually have Team Rocket send Pikachu to their boss, and Ash has to ho back to Kanto to save him. lol wouldn't that be great?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Uncia In reply to sacridshadow [2009-05-05 18:14:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, Rattata has a great move pool.

I remember that! Pikachu used to look horrible. It's how I first came to prefer Raichu. I still prefer Raichu, but at least Pikachu looks a lot better now.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sacridshadow In reply to Blue-Uncia [2009-05-06 03:56:21 +0000 UTC]

yeah. I can't see Ash with a raichu. It just wouldn't look right. at all.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Uncia In reply to sacridshadow [2009-05-06 07:36:03 +0000 UTC]

Raichu is big and ridiculously heavy for its size (50 kilos). Ash's Pikachu will never evolve, for several reasons, but one of the most simple ones is that it wouldn't be able to ride on Ash's shoulder any more. XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sacridshadow In reply to Blue-Uncia [2009-05-06 08:02:54 +0000 UTC]

or bicycle. (cycling road) lol I don't think the creators will want pikachu to evolve because they don't like drawing a nice raichu. lol and it would cause so many problems. I recall that you can de-evolve a pokemon, right? if that's the case, then they should make that an episode where pikachu evolves and ash has to de-evovle pikachu. lol

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Uncia In reply to sacridshadow [2009-05-06 08:12:34 +0000 UTC]

No, actually a PokΓ©mon can never de-evolve. That's Digimon.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sacridshadow In reply to Blue-Uncia [2009-05-06 16:56:30 +0000 UTC]

it is? darn. lol maybe we could make a machine to de evolve them. lol since there's one that evolves them. though, there is a stone that can keep a pokemon from evolving, I think it's called an everstone, from gold and silver. lol

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Uncia In reply to sacridshadow [2009-05-07 08:15:44 +0000 UTC]

Yes, make them hold the ever stone and they will not evolve. However, you can also make a PokΓ©mon stop evolving in R/B/Y. Whenever it starts it's transformation, just hit 'B', and it'll stop. This will work in all games.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of de-evolving. That would turn the whole concept on its head (not to mention make it look like Digimon). XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sacridshadow In reply to Blue-Uncia [2009-05-07 16:54:31 +0000 UTC]

yeah, I remember that. I did it to my totodile in my japanese gold version. He got to somewhere around level 68 before I accidentally let him eveolve. The cool thing about not letting them eveolve is that they learn their moves sooner than their evolved forms.

The kid who loses to misty in cerulean city, will still be there when you finish the game. I would think that they would've either moved on, or gotten better pokemon, or trained more. but they don't. lol

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Uncia In reply to sacridshadow [2009-05-11 07:18:46 +0000 UTC]

Well, obviously you'd only use it on stronger trainers. Like, in Firered I have this favourite hangout to train. It's on one of the Sevii Islands, near a hot spa where you can heal you PokΓ©mon.

Near that spa are no less than 5 trainers, all with PokΓ©mon in the same level range as the elite four (they will be if you challenge them as often as I have, anyway). That's usually were I train my PokΓ©mon. It saves me the hassle of going up against the actual Elite 4.

Blue-Uncia In reply to sacridshadow [2009-05-19 12:41:21 +0000 UTC]

That's because you probably understand the basic principles of the game. You may not understand the language, but you have a pretty good idea of how the menu is organized and all that, because you've played similar games in the past.

My cousin had never played a PokΓ©mon game before, so he had no idea. XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sacridshadow In reply to Blue-Uncia [2009-05-23 07:42:42 +0000 UTC]

ah. That makes some sense. japanese can be very annoying at times. For example, I had started playing again, and i didn't know what moves my pokemon had and in what order. I knew that Ho-Oh had Sacred fire and recover, and that my Feraligatr had slash and surf. lol and that's about it. i recently caught a sneasel and am trying to get it to have any ice moves like ice beam, for the baby sneasel. I haven't had time to play lately so there is still no egg. lol

Blue-Uncia In reply to sacridshadow [2009-05-31 11:15:41 +0000 UTC]

Isn't ice beam usually TM13? Why don't you just try to teach it the TM move?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sacridshadow In reply to Blue-Uncia [2009-06-19 08:28:07 +0000 UTC]

there are different tms for each number. since they keep changing them. It's really lame. anyways, sorry I haven't replied in so long. Finals came up, and i've been really busy in the past few weeks. Appearantly, my school loads you up with work just before finals. Probably last minute assignments that needed to be done. We only talk to the teachers once a week. lol

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Uncia In reply to sacridshadow [2009-06-20 09:50:39 +0000 UTC]

Lol, that's okay. I remember how things used to be in high school.

As far as I know TM13 was Ice Beam in nearly all generations, excluding the 2nd one. It's one of the few TMs that was fairly stable in this regard. Same thing for Thunderbolt (TM24, if I remember correctly). But you're right, TMs seemed to constantly change.

Now that the 4th generation has 100 TMs, instead of 50, I think the numbers may finally be stable now. Perhaps they won't change it any more after this. ^^

i have to wonder how far they're going to go. They've already started to redo older ersions, so I can't imagine them putting in many more games. Nothing like capturing 100 pokemon species just to become a master.

As long as PokΓ©mon remains popular, I think Nintendo will keep coming up with new generations. I do hope they will elaborate on the concept, though, but I have no problems with them coming up with new generations.

As long as the new pokes look interesting enough. And a little variation in the starter types might be nice too. Fire-grass-water is getting old. XD
