BLUEamnesiac — Majora's Mask GB: How to Tell the Time of Day

Description It may be a little small and cramped, but this is the simplest solution I can think of for converting the clock to a numbered bar. If you have any ideas or suggestions of your own, please post them here. Keep in mind, it should be compact to allow the most free space for the game area.

It might be bettter to differ AM and PM with another symbol to the right of 12 that glows. Like a circle glows for sun and day.

That's long been updated. [link] The current HUD is much more compact and easier on the eyes.

I think the flashing at the bottom would be distracting. why not instead, just have a little am/pm icon change or light up when it should be am pm? There is enough room to the right of the last roman numeral for it.....

BLUEamnesiac In reply to CloverWing [2012-04-15 23:25:35 +0000 UTC]

I can understand the flashing being a bother, especially to those sensitive to flicker. The layout has been overhauled [link] .

I'm not very good at roman numbers... Maybe a digital clock with 24 hours?

There is now a digital clock [link]

Hmm...Some people might not be overly fond with the number system that way. Perhaps a floating digital clock somewhere? Either in one of the corners or at the very top? Maybe when you move it lightens and when you stop moving it becomes darker so you can get a better look at it?

Otherwise the D-1 / D-2 / D-3 thing looks well!

It should be easier to look at now [link]

instead of the blinking, what you could so is right next to the line in that empty space there is have a sun or moon show up. I think it would work~

The layout has been updated [link] , thanks for the input. Unfortunately I couldn't get the moon and sun to appear in a compact form.

i was thinking the same! I just said 'am/pm' but a sun/moon would be cuter ^^

eV13il In reply to CloverWing [2012-04-13 02:11:02 +0000 UTC]

yeah, i think it would work well. some people still forget if Am is day or night, i get confused sometimes myself ^^"

You could always just have one of the 'times of the day' (XII, X, I, etc.) centered in that bar and include a small moon/sun next to it (you might feel the need to make it just a few pixels bigger in height though). That way, you could also indicate what time of the day + hour it is. If you need extra detail, you could also include additional icons (such as if time is slowed down or not), as well as a small progress bar for much how the hour has progressed. You can probably discard the last suggestion, though xD

BLUEamnesiac In reply to DonLawride [2012-04-15 23:23:03 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, and that was the first thing I tried. The height of the HUD/menu has always been a major concern of mine and it didn't pan out as well as I had hope. I did manage to compact things more and wasn't able to include the sun and moon as a meter/bar [link] . However... I could have it to where the sun/moon meter temporarily appears and disappears when Link enters/exits buildings and certain areas. Also, it could always be present in the start menu.

Yeah, sort of how they did with the seasons and ages in the oracle series.

The more I take a look at the Oracle games, the solution to some problems become obvious.

Mostly game function/interaction, sprite style and Link riding an animal in 2D. When I finally get around to making an Epona sprite, I'll definitely use the Oracle games as inspiration.

Pretty cool! One thing I was wondering, when you made this, did you make individual sprites and then compile them or just draw this as it were in MSPaint?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BLUEamnesiac In reply to kitatora [2012-04-08 00:07:39 +0000 UTC]

A little of both actually. I had multiple MS Paints running at once and created some elements separate in case I goofed up or wanted to tweak alignments.
