I've been doing some of this stuff on my own as a hobby but I never knew that the things I was doing had names. It was concise yet it gave enough information to feel confident trying some of the exercises others look like longer term projects I may take on one day. I like the tech references, analogies and that one doesn't need to be a computer programmer to understand them.

Most books are either so old that the language doesn't translate to modern vernacular very well or written in a
purposefully cryptic way so the author can project themselves as being smarter than they. XD

okay so I'm super new to magick, and I was wondering when you are in gnosis and visualizing the shapes, should you be able to literally see them in your vision with your eyes open? or is it simply visualization?

It starts as simple visualizations (like day dreaming) but the more you do it the more solid it becomes until it is indistinguishable from the real thing.
This can be deeply disturbing for some, because it looks 100% real they begin to question whether the world around them is actually real and such.

Just to give me the encouragement to push on harder (or more patiently), does it happen, from experience, that one's ability to visualize can manifest projections (especially without any drug-induced visuals) that are even close to naked-eye perception? Given that assurance from someone reputable as you, I'd definitely push on to perfect this.

I noticed what may be an error in your Tree of Life diagram on page 10. There is a path connecting Chokmah to Geburah, running through Da'ath, which is generally absent in the version you appear to be using. It's only there in the version that also has a corresponding path connecting Binah and Chased, but omits the side paths to Malkhut. As it is you've got one too many paths.
This is a really interesting presentation so far. Most of this is familiar territory for me but there have also been a few new concepts. Really liked the third eye breathing tech.

I've been looking through your other works since my previous comment and noticed you always draw the lightning bolt path, so disregard all of the above except that it's mirrored from what it should be in that one drawing.
Now that I've finished reading through this I'm even more impressed, you've really gotten down to the streamlined core of magical technique and added your own flair. I'm just starting to get back into the practice after having armchair'd myself for a couple years while I got my shit together, and I'm really glad to have found your work.

Hi bluefluke. I'm not finished reading this yet, but I'm on the section about spirits and I was wondering... have you ever read "When Rabbit Howls" by Truddi Chase and the "Troops"? It's an autobiographical account of a woman who was diagnosed with dissociative personality disorder, who been raped by her stepfather since toddlerhood and had split into almost 100 distinct personalities by the time she reached adulthood (the "Troops"). It was the first thing that came to mind when I read in your Field Manual about the brain creating new software to replace or protect a software that had been damaged. That book has nothing to do with the occult, but it's talking about the same thing you are.

I haven't read it but will definitely pick it up, though as fascinating as it will be I have to admit, I'm kind of dreading it too.
The amount of trauma, horror and dehumanization necessary in order for the mind to produce that many local spirits is staggering.
He either broke the girl, then every spirit her mind programmed to defend her from him or they are each gate keeping that many chunks of
memories as they would be too overwhelming of any of them to handle individually.
Either way, god damn. That man is a fucking monster.

Absolutely... it's a very harrowing read. I didn't mean to downplay that. You're correctly anticipating the way the "Troops" worked together to shield Truddi's younger personas from the pain they endured. Some of them were programmed for defense; others were memory keepers. I was just so struck by the immediate familiarity of the concept you presented in your field manual; realizing that I'd come across the concept before from a completely nonmagical source. It just goes to show our minds have the innate ability to do these things. From a purely psychological perspective (which the book was written from), I couldn't understand how any of it could be possible. From a magical/spiritual perspective, it makes infinitely more sense.
I finished reading the Psychonaut Field Manual. You did an excellent job! It was an entertaining and beautiful primer on the concepts behind chaos magick. We need more stuff like this. Thank you.

Hi! I absolutely love the guide but I have a question about the first step of level 2. Do you have any additional tips on staying completely still and relaxing the muscles? I can easily do up to 7 minutes but there is a sudden dropoff in quality from that point that I can't quite resolve.

Thanks! The best way is to keep your mind distracted. Here's a few tricks that I've found that can help without bringing up Gnosis killing thoughts or imagery:
1: The traditional Taoist/Buddhist method is to focus on your breath. Focus on the feeling of the air entering/leaving either your mouth/nose, throat or lungs.
2: The traditional Masonic/Gnostic method is to count to a certain number whilst breathing. So count count to four (or whatever number feels comfortable) and breath in, then count to the same number and exhale and so on.
3: The Hindu/Theosophist method is to repeat a mantra (i.e a gibberish word that has no meaning) over and over.
4: The Chaos/Discordian method is to use a fan and focus on the feeling of air moving against your skin. This can also work when sun bathing (just don't forget your sunscreen).
Personally, I found nonverbal ASMR and binaural music/sounds were a godsend. The downside however is that they can become a crutch and your brain eventually becomes numb
to their effects forcing you to take long breaks before they can work again. This would be fine but the only way to "advance" via meditation is to do it consecutively day after day
and the breaks force you to start from scratch over and over.
My advice is to start by seeing if ASMR and/or binaural stuff works for you (it doesn't work for everyone, unfortunately) by doing a youtube search. If so, combine it with one of the four
aforementioned methods. Give each method a few tries and if it doesn't work, try another.
Remember not to be too hard on yourself. Everyone (without exception) greatly struggles with these first steps. They are by far the most difficult step in the process as your brain has built incredibly robust
defenses to keep you out, but once you break through the rest is easy.
You can do this, I promise.

There's a subtle typo on page 18/31. Under Safety there is a sentence that reads: "If however, you make their their lives unbearable... " Also, on page 28/31, under Step Two, there is a sentence that I am guessing should read "which IS why the next step is so important." I just thought it worth mentioning. Oh, and good work as always. Once this bad boy is finished, I will definitely be purchasing a physical copy.
