Description
This is an older piece. Like--2021 old, so this is nothing new. This was a ref made for an illustration piece that, sadly, never got done...hopefully someday I'll get to it, because I really like this dude.
-----
This is Hezu (Pronounced 'Hay-zoo'), and he is a Quagsire/Sandslash halfbreed that lives under Professor Elm's care.
He's middle-aged, around 28 years old (But being a Ground-type, he's still got plenty of years left in him), and is one of the sweetest and most mild-mannered fellas you'll ever meet. He's rather calm and collected for the most part, and loves to laze about in the water enclosure that Elm has provided for him and many other Pokemon he cares for. His favorite snacks are dried Remoraid and Tamato Berry paste.
Hezu has, unfortunately, experienced the phenomenon of 'Traumatic Primal Reversion', like many other halfbreeds one time in his life.
About 15 years ago when he was still living as a wild Pokemon, he was caught stealing vegetables from a farm. When he was caught in the act, he was chased off the property by the farmer's own guard Pokemon, and then beaten with sticks by the farmer himself.
Afraid for his own life, Hezu snapped and retaliated by using a very powerful Stone Edge attack, killing two of the farmer's Pokemon as well as impaling the leg of the farmer himself with one of the sharpened rocks of the attack. Though the man was badly injured and now trying to crawl away from the area, Hezu, with his mind clouded with fear, still saw him as a threat. He then pounded his claws against the ground, creating a powerful shock wave that splintered the earth around him.
This devastating Earthquake attack not only shredded the bodies of the man and his two Pokemon into a fine red stain in the dirt, but it also completely destroyed his farm and took out nearly half of a neighboring small town (Happy Town) in the process.
Upon being discovered as the source of all this carnage, Hezu was heavily sedated and apprehended by Officer Jenny and her squad.
He was later set to be euthanized as he was seen as a danger to society, but it was thanks to Professor Elm pulling some strings with his higher-ups (specifically with the help of the greatly respected Professor Oak) that Hezu's life was spared.
He now resides safely in Elm's lab alongside other Pokemon that are all well-cared for.
Alongside being a helper and additional care-taker (Hezu helps in tending to the needs of the Baby Pokemon in the lab),
Elm is also using him to study both the immense power of halfbreeds in general and how TPR affects their minds and how it can possibly be controlled.
Hezu knows of the Parkes family, close friends of Professor Elm, and their Pokemon, and he gets along with them all well enough.
Seeing them all as extensions of his big happy family at the lab, and he especially shows interest in the one halfbreed resident of the family, Razzle, whom he tends to view as a child that he needs to watch over and mentor...Razzle does not share these same views and just sees him as 'A weird old guy that won't leave him alone'.
Hezu often responds that:
"Just like with all the world's troubles, every Halfbreed will eventually find one another. So get used to it, son".
