Description I think it's apparent the other Digidestined have Custom forms like Veemon. So to start things off, we have Palmon and Tentomon's Custom forms and I think it's apparent where they originate from.
CheerGalmon's design was easy enough to come up with, I asked myself what Lilliymon would look like as a cheerleader.
Her pompoms also function similar to Lillymon's cannon...

JokiChuumon gave me a little trouble as I didn't really know what the joki prefix in his name stood for. Also I wanted to give him a more insect like form, but I decided to skirt all of that and had fun with him. Since he was a mouse, I gave him a computer mouse for a 'beetle' shell as a homage to his insect origins. Also I wrote JokiChuumon essentially as a computer bug, so that's another win there. XP

Enjoy, more Custom forms to follow.

Very nice! Next time that Bandai of Japan has a contest, you should see about entering one of these designs. I'm sure that you would be a shoe in!

Although unfortunately it could be very difficult to get into the contest not being a resident (unless you are).

I had thought of that. I think that'd be cool to be able to enter a Bandai of Japan design contest, but I think you're right in that the contest may only be open to residents only. Of which I am a native of Ohio not anywhere in Japan. :<

Yeah, it's too bad I think you would do really good with your Digimon designs

These Digimon are pretty much now part of the long list of forgotten Digimon starting with Bun from C'mon Digimon. But oh well, I really liked your take on Cheer Galmon and Joki Chuumon

By the way: just so you know, about what Joki means, it's a truncation of the onomatopoeia, γ˜γ‚‡γγ˜γ‚‡γ "Jokijoki", which is a snipping sound (as with scissors). Speaking of onomatopoeia, here's a really good dictionary of it, just in case you read manga often. [link]

[However, that's assuming that the person who romanised his name did so accurately. I don't know who did. It's possible that it could've been "jΓ΄ki" or even "shoki", but most likely "jΓ΄ki". I don't have a good reason to assume that's not just "Joki" though.]

Ah, maybe.

Frankly I think it's apparent those contests are rigged somewhat, as only Digimon drawn by the wee little ones tend to get top billing which is how we got CatchMamemon and Surfimon.

Ooooh, so that's what Joki stands for. That actually makes sense, given the apparent mousey nature of the Digimon. Eh, got a point there about that though. On the other hand, I once told some people that "JokiChuumon" is just simply the "English Version" name in my stories. (One got into a small 'argument' over what the Digimon's name prefix actually meant. Lemme tell ya, "oy.")

Who knows? They may be lol But the contest winning Digimon do tend to get lost in time. One of the biggest exceptions is probably Cyber Dramon, who even has a new model now.

And yeah, I know what you mean. I really can't stand most Digimon fans on the Internet as of lately. They won't listen to you even if you go through the trouble of going to the official Digimon website, or the official Bandai Namco website, and translating a Digimon's profile to prove that you're right. And some will even make things up to make your source look dubious. It's even harder with Digimon like Joki Chuumon because he's only ever been in one source, and a difficult one to demonstrate at that.

What's interesting is that a lot of the main Digimon we know are actually contest winners: Dobermon, Doggymon, Lampmon, even Kabuterimon surprisingly.

Ugh, the feeling is increasingly mutual...

I thought the Transformers fandom was toxic, but the Digi one is getting to be more so since Savers crawled out three-four years ago...

And the names.. Oy... Now I'm more of a English Version person when it comes to the names, but this whole tyrade over what just the JAPANESE versions of the names should be? Even after what you were saying? Oh good grief...!

You think we take or Digis too seriously? I just like writing silly adventures with the DigiDestined and Generals, but that's starting to become a little difficult with all this "NO YOU SUCK! I'M RIGHT! YOU'RE WRONG! Yadda-yadda-yadda..."

Yeah, you're right Actually, when I wrote that, I hadn't a clear idea of just how many Digimon contests there had been, so I thought only a small handful of Digimon, like Holy Digitamamon, Earth Dramon, Babydramon, Techno Dramon and Punch Narabimon were contest Digimon, but I realise that there are a lot more now, and I agree with you

I think that the fan made Digimon becoming real Digimon concept might be something that's integral to Digimon, and I personally think that Takato's Guilmon becoming a real Digimon might've been a kind of shout out to that.
---
To be honest, I think it wass earlier than Digimon Savers. When the anime were only Digimon Adventure and 02, I noticed a few (not as many as now, but a noticeable amount of) people were complaining that Digimon World wasn't enough like the anime, despite it coming out first :\

(That was kind of the beginning of it in my mind. It's where the "wrong digivolutions" claim comes from too. But now, people claim that most of the games and the Card Game were made by a careless, unknown third party source.)

A lot of fans left after Digimon Tamers came out, claiming that it "wasn't enough like Digimon" (which in my opinion is completely wrong, since Tamers was like Digimon going back to its roots in the V-Pets, the games and V-Tamer 01).

Many more stopped after Digimon Frontier came out. Even though Tamers was my favourite of all, I really liked Frontier. I believe that Bandai and Toei Animation had a right to (successfully) experiment with their franchise and tv series as they saw fit.

In my opinion, Digimon is better off without close-minded fans like that, but they are very local when it comes to certain public forums. Particularly, I try to avoid YouTube, which after going to With the Will, I was told is a troll nest. Sometimes you can't help but correct someone who's making things up, though.

Fortunately, a lot of dedicated sites shut people like that out after they cause trouble.

On a positive note, have you been keeping tabs on Digimon Xros Wars? I noticed you mention the Generals, but I didn't know if you meant any of the other Generals-like organisations from previous Digimon series.
---
You might be right that we take Digimon a little seriously But in my opinion, it's good to be a fan of something and be inspired by something

From time to time, I try to work on a Frontier rewrite / novelisation / fan fiction (still in its infancy), but I've been a little too busy lately to work on it (Sorry about the really long message, btw )

What's kinda sad about those Contest Digimon you mentioned is that they really haven't seen the light of day beyond that. Especially to the point that we don't even know what they look like very well. :<

Xros Wars and Toei recently had a fan contest, and the winning Digimon are kinda cool. My favorite one's Footmon.

--

You have a point there about that. Savers at the time was my earliest recollection because that was when I was starting to frequent With the Will more to find out more about the newer stuff coming out.

I admit I get more and more surprised over the Tamers hate. Now, admittedly it's not one my top favorites, but I still like to watch it and enjoy what goes on. I say surprise as I still tend to see a lot of favoritism to it among the Internet populace with Savers and Xros Wars' arrival.

That said outside of it, I run into a lot of people who as you said stopped at 02. Some made it through Tamers but between that and Frontier they would say that they sucked and only Adventure and 02 are the "true" Digimon.

Very few people knew what Data Squad was, and even those that I run into that do typically don't like it.

"It's Agumon: WITH BELTS! Pass."

My personal favorite complaint was showing someone a picture of Ballistamon. "It's a dishwasher."

That said, 02 isn't even the best outing for Digimon, in fact after the Emperor arc it started to wander around trying to figure out what to do with itself like what happened with Sonic X after it ran out of Sonic Adventure titles to adapt.

But don't get me wrong, I can still watch both 02 and Sonic X and be entertained by it.

Digimon Frontier was probably among my favorites. Perhaps for how controversial it was during its time, I latched on to it more than I did Tamers. It also probably didn't hurt that in America, Fox Kids became the FoxBox and Digimon drifted over to UPN. The one channel I didn't have.

We got satillite TV eventually, incidently towards Frontier's end run in the US.

Then UPN stopped showing it and Digimon Frontier reran constantly on ABC Family after that. A channel I actually had without the satillite....

Screwy eh?

Anyway I really liked Frontier too, not just for the controversy but probably how as you said they experimented with the franchise. I do find it sorta funny how people complain that Humans shouldn't turn into Digimon referring to Frontier, but yet no objections are said when Humans turn into Digimon when referring to Tamers.

I think that is the close-minded aspect you talked about.

Ugh... I wonder why I still go to WtW actually. It truly HAS become a troll's nest. With Xros Wars' closing episodes... hoo boy the ripsnortin' po'd rants about real trivial things amongst some of them. Scary...! Yet at the same time sad.

I don't necessarily mind if they don't like it, but going to such hateful extremes is depressing...

I usually go to YouTube by default, but I ignore the comments. I just come to see the footage.

Ah the old Wrong Digivolution bit. Even I have fallen prey to that. I remember being a wee bit annoyed at Biyomon turning into Aquilamon in Savers. Now keep in mind, I was perfectly aware that Digimon are kings of MultiPath Digivolution, but something about Aquilamon to me didn't fit asthetically at the time.

Hehe, yup. Xros Wars is one of my top favs now right up with Frontier. Pry for the same ideas: controversy and the unusual form of Digivolution. DigiXros has become a particular favorite, just because of how spontaneous it is, lol. BalliBastemon, PawnGaossmon, GolemJijiKamemon, JetMervamon, ah the list goes on.

I'm excited for the new season of Xros Wars this weekend. I'm a lil' bit saddened that DigiXros is taking a backseat, but then after Shoutmon X7 Superior Mode, that's probably for the best..!

---

True, you can take a lot of inspiration, but then I think taking the Digimon too seriously can sort of choke certain expectations. Similar to how the Bandai material says certain Digimon are supposed to be this, but Xros Wars ignores those for its own conventions. The one example I can think of is Fanglongmon who is usually a "God" type Digimon, but wound up as a henchman for Dorbickmon the FireFury Death General.

Now I don't mind it. Personally I find a sense of amusement in it.

Oh so? A Frontier rewrite? That'd be cool to see sometime.

Sorry about the really late reply :/ I haven't been very good about actually going onto Deviant Art in such a long while.

Wow, Footmon does look really good He looks too good not to be a popular Digimon And yeah, they just pretty much fade away :/ There's a handful of monsters who were designed by Bandai themselves that were victim to this too.

---

Mhmm, it's sad really. They would never have given Digimon a chance. I recall playing Digimon World 2 and thinking that if stuff like this happened in the show, people probably wouldn't like it, and I was kind of right. (Though I thought Frontier was going to be way over rated by fans when I first heard of it for some reason, but I was wrong about that ) Tamers and Frontier incorporated some ideas from Digimon World 2, but the reason some fans didn't like those is because it wasn't Digimon Adventure. That's also why people didn't like the game, even the ones that came before the anime. They ironically complained that it wasn't enough like the anime. Ironically, this might even be a reason why we never got the anime-canon games, except for Anode/Cathode Tamer which made it to Hong Kong.

Digimon Adventure 02 was practically a mess. I don't know what was going on, but most of the inconsistencies in Digimon can be traced back to 02. I think it was just bad communication, and to top it, like you said, it had no where to go after the Kaiser arc. What I think they should've done is explore the Dark Ocean and maybe get involved in what eventually became the story line for Brave Tamer. It's possible 02 just came too early though. I get entertained by 02 too, if I don't think too much about it lol :S I haven't watched Sonic X, but I've heard things about it ^_^;

That is screwy lol. I was pretty much in a similar situation ^_^; I mostly saw Frontiers thanks to reruns on ABC Family. Although, I had to have digital cable for it.

I agree with Humans turning into Digimon. The games sort of weed out the close minded fans. Digimon World 2 had the same concept too later on

I haven't been on WtW in over a year. About a year ago last February (I think) I tried explaining Jogress which I *thought* was a well known thing about how Jogress was just one Digimon using another to unlock an evolution (kind of like a power source almost exactly like how the crests are used), but I wasn't well met. Back in GameFAQs, we had figured this out way back in 2001. I'm surprised that people don't know about this.

YouTube always gets worse. Now there's a fake rumour going around. People can't get it through their heads that there are multiple time lines for Digimon Adventure with slightly different sequences of events. They think Hikari's AngeWomon evolves into Holy Dramon only if Tailmon is missing her Holy Ring, and to Ofanimon otherwise. Despite the fact that makes 0 sense and ignores all of the times she's evolved into Holy Dramon with her Holy Ring in canon games and throughout the general franchise. There's also people complaining that they "made Lilimon evolve into Rosemon like Lilamon", but that's gotten better.

This was a risk when Bandai decided to make the new time line (the Digimon Adventure rpg for the PSP, the third time line or fourth if you count the ones in Medley). They decided to give AngeWomon and Zudomon replacement evolutions, Ofanimon and Vikemon rather than Holy Dramon and Plesiomon. Some fans just can't get multiple evolutions through their heads and just fail at understanding how this works even given the multiple time lines.

Haha, there are a lot of neat monsters in Xros Wars. One thing that slightly bothers me, though, is that it kind of implies that there's an infinite potential for combinations of monsters and things. It doesn't bother me in a bad way, but it's a novel concept. I suppose that's why some of the Digi-Xrosses didn't really get original names. I have seen people say that it's odd that some didn't get names, but I think it's exceptional that some did get names. I think those were special Digi-Xrosses, the ones which did get names.

The third season of Xros Wars (or more properly the sequel series to Xros Wars) suffered from bad writing from what I've heard =/ Some of the people I met last year completely ignore it because of how bad it got according to them lol. Xros Wars did give us a manga too, which I hear was even better than the anime. I still haven't had time to go over much of the Xros Wars material though.

---

I suppose so. The way that I think of it, the profiles form a meta-canon that transcends the franchise and depicts key points throughout all of the time lines in the franchise. They also give you a general idea of what to expect from a certain monsters, but that's not always what the case as you mentioned it in Xros Wars with HuΓ‘ng LΓ³ngmon for example. But they're just there for a general guideline and a summary of the franchise as a whole (In fact, I don't think that Daisuke's Imperial Dramon in 02 is a good representation of the meta-canon Imperial Dramon).

I've given up on the idea of a Frontier rewrite. I rewatched it and I starting thinking that Frontier was pretty much the best it could be. I also thought it wasn't popular, but I started talking to more real Digimon fans like you, other people who know what they're talking about. But leaving YouTube was a good idea lol. The worst are there. And I thought we were an even smaller minority than we are while I was there.

The only real problem I have with Frontier is that Takuya and Kohji got the better end with evolutions I think that Bandai should've introduced about 10 more Digimon* to fix that problem, but I don't want to try taking a go at it ^_^; I think

*Specifically, I would've liked Advanced Hybrids for the four remaining of the 10 Legendary Warriors, which could've shown up in the finale, four more Zeta Hybrids and two more Susanoomon-like forms, being Wind+Darkness and Ice+Thunder following the order given in Hyper Colosseum.

I was thinking that Digimon Adventure 02 would rather need a rewrite, but I really haven't had the time to come up with more than a few ideas for the story :/

S'all right! Hope things have been well! :3

Footmon's really cool, it's just a shame they never found a proper way to use him since his debut. Maybe he'll show up in the next anime (when ever that may be)?

Some of the others did get used which I'm happy with like Ganemon and Bakomon, Digimon I don't think the older fandom would have ever created willingly. At least not without turning them into a money dragon or a dog made out of boxes (this one DigiXros I made between Bakomon and Doggymon aside, lol).

I still wonder how Soundbirmon would have been used. A giant demonic music note... XD

Coincidently there has been a topic on WtW about underated Digimon. Typically most of them are those who originated from V-Tamer though. Arkadimon's been getting some attention lately, so I like to think some of the others from V-Tamer will get some credit eventually like Callismon.

I recall Tuskmon was brought up in particular as underrated. Maybe there's only so much you can do with a dinosaur covered in random spikes....?

-----

As far as a lot of people are concerned, the anime came first and it is GOD. Really so much to the point that anything else on the side is considered blasphemy. Plus there's the V-Pet aspect of the original Digimon World, which I can understand as being unappealing to some people where you have to train it and hope it doesn't die before a crucial point.

I heard that the staff behind the anime and the Wonderswan games at the time were different groups that explored their own ideas. I might be getting this wrong, but it sounds like some producer, that many of the staff really didn't like, basically took the original ideas presented in Adventure and totally eviscerated them. It's something that's pretty common in the animation industry actually. Starting out with one thing, and it getting beaten into something totally different and half-assed. Nickelodeon's Catscratch is one example of this. It surprisingly started out really, really dark.

I don't know much about DW2 I admit. Mostly what sticks out to me about the game besides the dungeon crawling aspect are the DigiBeetles. I really found those things fascinating and implemented them into my own stuff though with a twist.

I think I read that Jogress idea. I think someone else recently started up a similar topic on WtW, and it's met with similar retaliations. I think's fair to say that no one really knows what's going on (because the toys, anime and manga all have had slightly different takes on the subject) and we're all just coming up with whatever makes the most sense to us. Case in point, the Gatomon turning into Magnadramon or Ophanimon if she doesn't have her Tail Ring or not.

I'll admit, there is some minor logic that makes sense to me in the idea, but again it's just the aforementioned head canon logic speaking.

That being said, there's no denying that multipath evolution is Digimon's thing. This still goes back to the anime somewhat, where they show and imply that all Koromon eventually become Agumon and so on.

Personally, I prefer Vikemon over Plesiomon asthetically, because he looks like he'd Digivolve from Zudomon more than Plesiomon does. Plus, in Vikemon's profile, he is said to be the leader of the Ikakumon and Zudomon species so it fits perfectly.

But again, no denying that he couldn't Digivolve into Plesio either.

Shoot, Archelomon Digivolving into Zudomon fits as well... though I can't recall if that's "technically" possible despite the fact they have the exact same shell. Heck, you could probably just DigiXros Ikkakumon and Archelomon together into Zudomon, lol.

----

Oy. Meta-fiction. WtW had a topic that ultimately went nowhere about whether or not the profiles hinted at a "Prime Timeline" or not. Honestly your idea is best one, and the most appropriate one I've heard. I certainly agree with it.

I don't think so either. Rarely do Partner Digimon seem to really be proper representations. Magnamon is a Royal Knight for example, yet Davis' was a one not Evolution that could barely match the four fisted Kimeramon.

I dunno about "real fan" as I hesitate to swing that lumber around. I just prefer keeping an open mind. Digimon are Digital Monsters, and therefore their data can be exposed to a ton of different data bases that affect how they evolve or how they look. Like the idea of Shoutmon X4 combining Super Robot style for example.

Yeah. I think I had heard the idea with Taky and Kouji was that the writers were emulating WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon through them with their highest forms.

It's kind of a crueler twist, where as Tentomon and the others were in realization of their limitations because they couldn't Digivolve to Mega yet could still put up a fight anyway, Zoe's group... well all they could do at one point was throw snowballs at Crusadermon. Honestly though I have to applaud the writers for giving Zoe, Tommy, JP and Kouichi something constructive to do.

When it comes to Frontier, really all that could be done in a rewrite is be less abusive to Zoe, give the characters equal exposure if at all possible. It's the Royal Knight plot that's the iffy part. You either do away with it and Lucemon just randomly devours the Digital World on his own and emerges from the remaining Dark Area... or have the DigiDestined beat the Royal Knights and save the Areas... only for the above to more or less happen through the Royal Knights in a last ditch effort. I mean it's clear from the original Opening credits that Lucemon was crucial to the plot from the get-go so he was going to be resurrected one way or another.

I'm not sure how well that would have worked. Having KaiserBlitzmon or MagnaFairymon running around. It'd be cool, but it seems you could only do so much. I mean the closest thing would have been to let Zoe, JP, Tommy and Kouichi Spirit Evolve to JetSilphymon, RhinoKabuterimon, DaiPenmon and Reichmon. ... But even then they'd still get overshadowed by EmperorGreymon and MagnaGarurumon.

The only way to make it fair in my mind would be ... perhaps to have Takuya+Tommy+Zoe+Spirits=E-Greymon and Kouji+Kouichi+JP+Spirits=M-Garurumon. It'd be two single beings against the Royal Knights, but they've got three Human batteries beating inside so that ought to count for something I'd think.

I... really don't know what could be done with 02 aside from keeping the Emperor around longer. Xros Wars had this problem with Baguramon, and he didn't really... do anything until the last minute and it was semi-anticlimactic.

I did, in fact that's the point of her as a Custom Digimon.

I was searching to see if anyone made art for the CD digimon, and found this comment, it's not custom if it exists...

True! But for the sake of it, I addressed them as Custom types simply for the scenario of how they came about in Zone continuity. Besides it's not like they ever had any actual description. And I don't actually think they truly Digivolved in a sense in the CD, I think (especially towards the end) they were just goofing around.
