The original material seemed to suggest Mr. and Mrs. were creations of Quartzmon as well to keep up the illusion. I avoided that detail because I wasn't sure how to approach it post-Quartzmon.
Your idea is what I'd use. Especially since they'd still accept him as their son in the end, I'd like to think.
