Description I didn't grow up watching Project GeeKeR initially, though I have a vague memory of potentially having watched what may have been a smidge of it once on CBS, but a friend of mine did and fondly remembers it, having introduced it to me during one of our past meetings.

A Doug TenNapel creation, it centered around a grungy cyber punk future where a corrupt business mogul, Mr. Moloch, controls not only the planet but most of the solar system. To expand his empire, Moloch commissions his mutant mastodon scientist, Dr. Maston, in the creation of G.K.R, or Geno-Kinetic Research, a shape shifting ultimate life form that would overpower any opposition. Unfortunately for Moloch, G.K.R was stolen by rebels Lady MacBeth the hot headed cyborg and Noah the level headed, Brad Garret sounding t-rex before his final rendering could be completed, leaving him as a friendly but zany cloud coocoolander with poor control over his powers.

The show's basic plot after that was Becky, Noah and "Geeker" dodging Moloch's henchmen and keeping Geeker out of enemy hands while having to work around Geeker's goofiness and malfunctions.

With many 90's properties getting some degree of revivals, I wondered how a modern GeeKeR might go and shared it with my friend.

For the most part the original concept is the same, but set in a Cyber Sleuth/Ready, Player One style cyber punk world populated by hackers.

The Real World is surprisingly sterile and clean, somewhat referencing Demolition Man, but the Network is that same grunginess from the original GeeKeR cartoon. Hackers dominate a Moloch Industries controlled internet which regulates what the populace can and cannot see, with Becky as part of a team of hackers that try to overthrow Moloch's grasp.

One day, Becky stumbles upon top secret files from Dr. Maston regarding a Super AI, G.K.R, that's intended to wipe out hacker influence and sterilize the Network entirely, preventing people from fighting back against his rule. However, due to Becky's meddling, G.K.R became corrupted, absorbing data from her computer (which secretly held cartoon and internet meme data) and evolving into a NetNavi like digital lifeform.

Taking an immediate shine to Becky, Geeker protects her from a Pinker antivirus assault by doing something "peeeeeculiar~!" and joins her on her quest to free the internet from Moloch Industries.

Noah is also along for the ride, but he too is a digital lifeform. In the original series, dinosaurs never went extinct and merely burrowed underground and created a dinosaur society that survived into the modern day, but were met with scorn and racism by (most) humans. In the proposed reboot, "dinosaurs" refer to archaic programs that aren't in mainstream use anymore, but are used by hackers like Becky. Noah is deliberately designed to resemble a Digimon, particularly the original 90's punk style they used to have in reference to his own 90's punk style. As Becky isn't a cyborg in this version, Noah gains her original cyborg arm to add to his cybernetic redesign.

Becky personality wise is the same as her original counterpart, being a stubborn short fuse, though her punk design is reserved for her online avatar. In the Real World, she's plain and thin, but still cute looking, with her avatar reflecting what she'd actually like to be. She comes from a well off family that's loyal to Moloch Industries, but she hates the constricted, do as we say atmosphere born from Moloch's influence. The internet is, for the most part, the last real free place to do as one pleases, and Becky will fight fiercely to keep that freedom.

Geeker is also fundamentally the same, but his brand of randomness and goofiness is more cited in internet culture. He also isn't as concerned with fitting in with society, loving to embrace his absurdity and the freedom the internet has to do so. Despite this, he tries to take things as seriously as his malfunctioning mind can muster, but still generally likes to approach a problem by being peculiar. As a Super AI, he infiltrate any firewall and shapeshift into whatever he likes in order to do so with ease, but his random behavior and glitches can hinder this occasionally. Geeker really seems to adore Becky in particular, and goes out of his way to try to make her lighten up and enjoy herself, which is often met with resistance from the stubborn girl. Geeker is also fond of dated catchphrases such as "Neato Torpedo", which greatly irks many modern hackers.

While not pictured, Moloch would be straight up the same design and calm, emotionless demeanor, as would Maston, though Maston would have different origins. His appearance is never explained in the original, and while anthropomorphic creatures and aliens are common place, I'm inclined to think Maston might've been human at one point before mutating into a cyborg mammoth thingy.

In the reboot, Dr. Maston was a brillaint human scientist, if unstable. One day to gain ultimate knowledge, he converted himself into digital data and uploaded himself into the Moloch Industries network, creating a mammoth like avatar for himself due to a fondness for prehistoric beasts. Within the computer network, Maston was able to gather the necessary knowledge to build and program what would become G.K.R.

Any enemies Geeker and co. fight are viruses and other programs designed by Dr. Maston, some based on pre-existing characters like Stonebender and the Dragonn twins.

Now this is something I can get behind! Although ideally, I would like to see something like the original Freakazoid mixed in with Digimon, Tron, and Ready Player One in this - if the approach is going to go with nostalgia and looking back on the Eighties, why not look to the tail end of the 20th century for story inspiration?

Although given the animation industry and fandom so far...*groan*

I get that sometimes, reboots don't always hit the mark, but I at least want some of them to be by people that actually respect both the original story and the people they intend for it to watch.

Is it really that hard to ask?

Yes, because even if you get people who respect and love a franchise to bits to work on it, fans will still complain because it’s not the way they’d specifically do it.

You think that's what's happening now, or is there a legitimate break-down somewhere in the chain of command?

I’ve seen it plenty of times in the Transformers and Sonic communities.

I've never even heard of this show, honestly, but it sounds like it could be up my alley!

And as usual, your "redesigns" are 72/10, if I must say.
