Description
It's been a while since I tried that other style, and while it was fun while it lasted, I didn't really enjoy drawing in it as much. Because of that, I thought I'd redraw Captain Contrast and give him a little update.

First of all, his real name is Murdock Crowns: Captain Contrast was always a nickname, I just didn't have a real name for him. Murdock is perfectly old fashioned and a bit sinister sounding for him. Also I made him a Were-bird because I thought about having a were-bird character and Contrast is already my "self-sona" character, so why not make him really represent BlueJayy? I decided that his wings come out of where his wing tattoos are when he transforms; much like how the markings around his eyes grow dark feathers. And I gave him an dope ass hat that I wish was real. I was going to give him shoes, but I wanted to make all the clothing fit on him in both forms and shoes just didn't work. Murdock spends most of his time at sea or in the water, so I guess he doesn't need them that much anyways.

Also, I never actually explained where the nickname Contrast comes from. In his world, there is this magical corruptive shit that can distort the human body when exposed to it for too long. One of the symptoms of mild exposure is this condition called Omnichromatopsia, where the afflicted sees the world in completely different colors, the majority of which are very bright and saturated. An example would be seeing the sky as a bright pink and the sea as a dark navy blue, rather than similar shades of blue. It's not really known WHY the color changes are so vastly different, but it's probably some weird magic bullshit. It's basically magical color blindness, except instead of not seeing certain colors, all the colors are swapped around and appear brighter.
His nickname comes from one of his crew members who has Omnichromatopsia, because after he got blasted with corruptive goo; parts of him remained the bright reddish hue she saw him as, and the parts of his body where the corruption got hit the most are a dark navy, almost black. She calls people based on the color they appear to her as (most people appear as one solid color to those with Omnichromatopsia), and he was two very contrasting colors, so she started calling him Contrast instead of Captain Crowns, and the rest of the crew just picked up on the nickname after a while.
Actually, him being blasted by the corruptive goo gives me a good excuse for how he's a were-bird in a world were everything is underwater. It's just one of the weird conditions he got from being corrupted by the evil magic sea goo.
