well from what i remember, the name of a character called "tad stange" got leaked months before he was in an episode, then alex had an ama on reddit as bill, when people asked him who Tad was, he just said "oh he's a real square",, and then the fandom (myself included) took that literally and over-hyped him when he was literally just a plain guy

i think cuz people asked who tad strange was gonna be and alex, as bill, replied, "tad is such a square" which he meant as a lame, boring person, but a lot of fans interpreted it that tad was a literal square 

and even after people were questioning whether he'd be a demon or just a guy, and after tad was actually revealed, they kept this blue square as a separate character

No actually. Like, Alex cleared this whole mess up at a con recently, he was saying that the fans were saying "YOU CHANGED TAD AT THE LAST SECOND JUST TO MESS WITH US!!!" But episodes take about a year to make from conception to final animation, and that he was and will always just be a gag in the episode. So it would've been impossible for him to hav e changed at the last second and the episode still not airing a million years later o3o""

BUT if you still loooove the demon "Tad Strange", he is now in an AU called Demonic Guardians (kidsanddemons.tumblr.com ) and is known as Dot Matrix

I know I still love his fanon self and love the AU (thank goodness for AUs!! <3)

Honestly I have no problem with canon Tad at all, AND fanon Tad, now known as "Dot Matrix", can remain as an AU <3333333

Also everyone keeps giving Alex a hard time with the whole Tad Strange mess that he "changed Tad at the last minute just to mess with fans" but episodes take about a year to make so he couldn't have gone back and change him at all

Plus Alex even said from the beginning that Tad was just a gag in an episode o3o

And I know you were probably just joking around, but some people are still really upset about this and it just needs to get cleared up ;3

Well, Alex did an AMA a while back as Bill Cipher, and someone asked if Bill has any family and he replied "not anymore". So people were like "OMG WHAT IF BILL HAD A BROTHERRRR"

BUT sometime before the AMA the name "Tad Strange" from Gravity Falls was leaked on Cecil Baldwin's IMDb page, so of course people were curious about that. So they asked Bill about Tad and he said "a Tad is a real square", so people took that quite literally rather than being a boring person. So that's where the square came from.

THEN later in the AMA Bill said, when asked about Gompers, "I like him better this way" so of course people flipped.

So in the end people came to the fanon conclusion that Tad Strange was a square demon, Bill's brother, and is possessing Gompers (hence the sideways pupils like Gompers)

AND NOW YA KNOW HAHA

but people (including me) still love this design so we still kept him but renamed him Dot Matrix <3

but I really like Tad how he is too

nahhh the fandom just took things too far with what Alex gave us. and he was right, he is a real square. and even a long time ago Alex said he was going to just be a gag in a future episode many times. BUT the "Tad" that the fandom created is still around (i still love his design) and he is Dot Matrix now :3
