Drawing-wise, I'm still stuck. But I've been brainstorming story ideas.

What's your story about, if I may ask?

BlueRoseLeaf In reply to fovena [2011-09-22 05:53:49 +0000 UTC]

good god sam, you are asking me to explain something so delicate and fragile... meaning, I have no idea where to start. xD

Um, I may (or should) just make an entry...idk if I should put it as a journal entry or as a written subission on DA - what do u think? :S because I am quite puzzled. if I do one way, I'd like to try and stay consistent.

I... think you should post it as a dA submission. 'Cuz journal is more your opinions and life events and yatta yatta. And the submissions are submissions of artistic expression. Writing is very well an artistic expression.

I should start writing.

I'm trying to teach my cousin to role play right now. She's 15 and she role plays, but she role plays-- in my opinion-- the bad way. So I'm trying get her to put more effort into it. But she's reluctant... and I guess you can't teach someone who you doesn't wanna learn, right? I'm trying to get her into it, but I dunno what to do.

She wants to write stories too, she's not so good at it though. I'm sure beauty is in the eye of the beholder... but there isn't much to behold. All her ideas are the ideas of other writers (Fruits Basket, Yugioh, Bleach). And her description and dialogue leave much to be desired. She even told me that if she wanted to publish her works, she'd just talk to the artists and get permission to use their ideas....

Sorry for the uber long post.

LMFAO...uh okay! xD UM, so yeah. To me, I think role-playing can't really be taught xD it must be learned through the pain and agony of staring out as a newbie ...through the sweat and blood that is to be shed, though shall learn the ART! oF ROLE-PLAYING >:0 Yeaaahhh. God, I could go into depth about this, but i'll stop myself xD

It's not as easy as it sounds to write and do all these things; one of the best things to do is to keep at it and accept critiques like its a giant spoon of medicine. [and also learn to critically anazlye works of others, it will apply to your work as well, is the best suggestion. its hard though, takes time and practice.] There will always be haters or rather different ideas (like u say, beauty-beholder-thing xD), but learn from those criticisms rather than take it personally. That. is the TRUE nature. of a writer ='D HOHO!

Hahaha. I don't wanna criticize her, though. I mean, I make my opinion clear, but I don't nit-pick... I dunno. I just remember that my skill was much high when I was her age... and right now, I want to help her along. I know I shouldn't compare her to others...

o, well thats true...
but u know how it is... sometimes its just awkward for people who arent...lets just say "natural" at it, as u were or something...ahah

Perhaps. Now that I think about it, it seems that she has all the passion to draw, but doesn't want to follow any rules. Same with writing. Which, really, there shouldn't be any problem with, should there? It's just a whole lot more difficult to develop. Most people base their skill off of a foundation. She is kinda trying to build her own foundation, which work, I guess.

Hm, heres a saying: "Dont re-invent the wheel" LOL. I think that sorta fits the situation.
While I admire her passion and independence to "do her own thing" and to try and "find her own way" - there is a level of discipline an artist should follow in order for their drawings to improve. This level of disciplinary art requires more analysis, that may not be as "fun" as the method that she is attempting to "build her foundation", like you said. Sometimes a little experimenting and self-exploring is good (like what she is doing) but in time, if she is trying to be serious about it, the sooner she realizes she needs to accept the anatomic studies and attention to forms, lighting, shade etc. that is needed to improve her art, the better off she'll be.

Anyways, I might be running on a tangent, I hope that all made sense
