What I've always found fascinating is the idea that when artificial intelligence becomes a fact and it reaches a level of self conciousness that it is aware of itself, what will it 'feel' when it finds out it is perhaps the only one of its kind.

Great piece of work here!

What a cool reply!

Together with a programmer I'm working on software that make smart choices when it comes to processing graphic files. At times we realize that what we actually want is some sort of code that can think like that human that is doing that same job now.Β

Thank you!

Sounds exciting and massively complex. I wonder how you try to simulate individual human perception, decisions based on subjective experiences and personal preferences.

Well that is the challenge with the impossible solution

It all comes down to charting the decision I would make to edit a file (like a pdf) to make sure it will print correctly. These decisions are based on 17 years of experience in fixing files to have them printed pixel perfect. How on earth am I (or me and my team) going to cram all those years of experience into a piece of code? I'm sure it can be done with a huge team of programmers and thus custom made software.

Biggest problem is that the file that comes in is already a grey area. So far software can't 'visually' check a file, but I can.

So far we've managed to cover the basics, which is already quite extensive, while also using software other companies have made. We combine them in our system. And what we are left with is actually knowing what sure as hell will go wrong during printing and check the files in these areas.

One thing is for sure. In order to get this working as good as it can get, is to think inside the software and not come down on it with an analog mindset. Even though it is the analog flexibility we desire Β

I don't want to be philosophical but these are decisions YOU would make based on YOUR personal experiences. I mean the software wouldn't act like a human being in general but act like YOU. You can give the program a grid, a flow chart or a check list but I'm not sure if it is possible to take into account every conceivable decision. A few years ago I was working with Quark Xpress and I used FlightCheck to verify the "integrity" of pdf files which was not very convincing. The software said "no", but I knew better and was right.

Nevertheless: Good luck!

oeh.... Β Quark Xpress!! That's a trip down memory lane

The system will never have intuition, if that is the word, and decisions it can make will be based on what I would do. It will be impossible to have it act like a human operator would. But yesterday I launched part of the sytem and so far it is doing well.

Sorry for the delay. I had to finish a slightly huge project and my mind wasn't free. I'm really glad that you are someone, who looks behind of some my pictures a bit more. I've asked myself how I answer your question best and how much I am willing to reveal about myself.

Do you know the situation when you feel lonely in a room full of people? Or if you're trying to tear down your personal walls continuously and fail again and again? Hamster wheel?

Do I like loneliness? Yes and no. Sometimes it's the only way to "tread on the brake" and do something just for yourself. On the other hand, in the recent years a lot of sh.. happened in my life under the headline "Loss" - beloved people, feelings, dreams. And in my gallery you'll find some pictures which I've created spontaneously when I felt really bad.

But I'm not a sad person. Quite the reverse. I've recharged my personal accus and hit the reset button, because life is too short and too precious. And I've decided to do only things that I like to do, what works mostly. I know, there are enough people on this planet who have really problems. But this doesn't change it for me.

I just love the concept ! A little bit too grainy (but it may be wanted ?)... but doesn't matter, the picture is too cool, and most importantly, the underlying ideas are powerful. BTW, the download option doesn't work apparently (and it is useless because the resolution is the same as the resolution of the zoom)

bluesixtynine In reply to pumpkinman68 [2013-05-26 17:11:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the nice comment. Yes, the grainy look is intentionally. Many of my pictures have a story behind or an underlying message and I'm very happy if someone recognize it, without I need to explain it, like in this certain case.

I saw this new Movie "Prometheus" and its the typical science fiction line what everyone knows.

I felt that the Filmmakers dont feel the right spirit in the scenes. They just wanna be "modern" but there is no feeling in the conversations... i mean it is absolutly the same shit what you saw many times before also.

I hate the Spirit of a FilmclichΓ©. Its like made by Robots and not by intellectual Dreamy Artists who respect every Second you see.

I haven't seen this movie yet, not even the trailer. And I haven't seen a similar picture too. It's just sprung out of my sick mind. I'm inconsolable that I don't suffice your intellectually requirements.

I don't explain my work normally. But once, try to imagine the following: There are 3 key messages in this picture - a dirty, empty and cold environment - a robot or a person who feels like a machine - and the unavailing hope for a message.

If you like, make something of it.

It is a very good idea to use such a Picture of a Robot or something as a Bridge for another Tell. So if it is a example for an explain it is good. But maybe also i do not like metallic science Fiction stuff such as. Or Maybe i like a Science Fiction Story, but with a complete other spirit what whe know from others. I mean it more warm and harmonic in the Feelings.

However, im sorry that i sayd "i hate your picture". It was just a kidding in that case becouse i wanted to joke with my wife.
On this point i have to tell you something. There was a Doner seller in my city and i was very friendly to him. After i payd the Doner he asked me: "You working?" He was 40-50 years old and he didnt asked where i work, he asked if i work. He looked unfriendly and i answered friendly that i work as a comic drawer for newspapers. After i sayd that he looked also unfriendly with.. yes with dumb eyes.
- So what i wanna say with that is that i was never a guy who wants to copy a charakter of an useless culture of "beeing a man" or beeing unfriendly. This Guy from the Doner Shop is one of those People who are unfriendly without a..
You know what i mean. I dont hate him but i think he is not happy and he did that kind of unfriendly Style also on others.

But... i am not so.

So when i speak for many people i dont use descriptions that are not so correct like use the word "hate" when theres nothing to hate really.
