Description I'd had this lineart sitting around for a while but I didn't know what to do with it. As much as I like Lucy's canonically pink dress, I just didn't want to do that. And then I remembered that I have a plotbunny that would fit perfectly.
So, meet the ghost of Lady Lucy Heartfilia.

The setting behind this is an AU. The world is more gothic, more Bloodborne-esque. And it's basically what would have happened if Natsu hadn't shown up in time to save Lucy from Gajeel and his temper.

Lucy Heartfilia, the heiress to the wealthy, long-lived Heartfillia bloodline, is kidnapped by Jose Porla for ransom. She's placed under the watch of Jose's most skilled - if not a little hard to control - man, Gajeel Redfox. What Jose doesn't account for is Lucy's innate talent and dogged determination to get under Gajeel's skin and goad him. It's a skill, really, to piss him off to the point that he loses his sense of restraint and ends up beating her. He doesn't expect the girl to die on him though, not when she's been so tough the other times, with her irritating little smug smirk and deep cutting jibes.
Knowing that he's completely fucked up the plan and he won't be forgiven for messing up this badly, Gajeel cuts his losses and bolts from Jose's holdings, vanishing into the streets and putting as much mileage between himself and his former boss as he can. Though he's running, Lucy's death still weighs on his mind. He's killed before, but never like that. Always in a fight or something unavoidable. It haunts him.
It haunts him to the point that he starts hallucinating the heiress in the streets, staring at him from the other side of the tavern, standing in the corner of his room in the dead of night and then vanishing, dressed in the same pretty ruffled gown she died in, stains, tears and all.
It isn't until he starts hearing her voice and seeing her almost constantly that he realises she is literally haunting his ass. She doesn't seem fully aware of her ghostly state, and she doesn't say much. It takes time for her to grasp that she's dead, and that it was by Gajeel's hand. But when her memory kicks in, ooooh when it kicks in, she's right back at it, goading and snarking at him almost non-stop, day and night, tormenting him (and rightfully so). It's abrupt, when he sees her one day and she looks neater. The dress is whole, her hair's done up and she looks like she did before they kidnapped her. Lucy still has a sense of manners and once she figured out she could change her appearance, she promptly fixed herself up.
But Gajeel's just about lost his mind. He seeks out some sort of supernatural aid, an young fortune teller called Cana. Once Gajeel tells her that he's got a ghost following him around she pulls out the details. Her disapproval is palpable.
"I'm almost tempted to refuse you advice. But, too much time tethered to this world can warp a spirit. It can steal their minds and render them vicious hellbent Wraiths with no home of a peaceful end, and I wouldn't wish that on her."
Cana tells Gajeel that he has to bring Lucy peace, but she cannot say how exactly, only that it's likely linked to the way Lucy died. Until then, Lucy will be tied to Gajeel by the bond of victim and murderer.
They discover how to ease Lucy's state quite by accident, and by Lucy's own moral compass, when they're passing through the winding alleys of a city. Screams beckon Lucy to investigate and after her brief absence, she returns in a hurry. The power of ghost comes quite in handy when you need to pass through walls and bear witness, silently and invisibly. She urges Gajeel, the only one with the physical power to do anything, to break into the house they're passing. Upon threats of madness, Gajeel consents and breaks in to find a middle aged man attacking a young man in the cellar. A maid is already beaten, bloodied and unmoving on the floor. Gajeel's unexpected entry brings a halt to the violence and hope to the bruised young man's eyes. Lucy tries - in vain - to attack the man, but her ghostly hands can't do anything. So, Gajeel does it for her. He incapacitates the man and voices the concerns Lucy has for the young victims. The man explains that his father didn't want him to marry a servant, and when the couple announced their intentions, he attacked. Lucy is the one who instructs Gajeel to tie up the offender and call for help. While he goes off to fetch a lawman and a doctor, Lucy floats over them, watching the man hold his beloved as she regains consciousness.
When Gajeel returns, help in tow, Lucy returns to his side and confesses that she feels better, and she believes that if they continue helping people from abuse and violence, she will eventually find peace.
Now with a goal and a plan, they set off into the world on a quest to put Lucy to rest, and though Gajeel kicks up a stink about having to go through so much effort, he really does want to make amends. With each life saved, Lucy grows in ghostly power, pulled further away from the slips Wraithdom and toward passing on.

I've got more for this AU, but I think that's enough; don't want to kill everyone with my text.
