I have this very persistent problem of falling especially hard into obscuro-/dead-fandoms. (I blame my comic/cartoon connoisseur friend for her irresistable influence.) Right now I'm in some serious love with Static Shock. Yeah, that super awesome cartoon with the doubly super awesome black main character. So awesome, and sadly unknown/underappreciated now, that it warrants ALL-CAPS in the title for every SS fanart I do.Anyway, here are some sketches of Virgil and Richie I did in class to keep awake. Since I'm a slave to quasi-realism Virg's dreads came out a lot floppier when translated in my style. Also, unintentionally, vaguely feminine DX I'm totally happy with Richie though, and it's on him that I unwittingly drew the most incredible Sadface I've ever drawn.
If you expect that Virchie art will surely follow, you know me well. >8D

Love, love! So much love! I forgot Static Shock even existed until a little recently. It had my thinking, WHY would my brain FORGET this!? Static is awesome. ^_^ Your art is awesome. Woot.

I'm not sure if its just me but I really hope they make a new series for SS. when i think of it as a *possible anime* i get the tingles. but wonderful work on virgils dreds, every time i try i make it look like he has snakes on his head and it looks funny.

AGREED. It's so hard to find people who watch and like Static Shock. I'm even rewatching the whole series on YouTube. Love your sketches though. Richie looks AWESOME.

Yeah, actually it's canon in the series. Partway through season 2 you'll notice he starts wearing a single earring in his right ear.

omggg i absolutely adore ur style! i think u have drawn prolly THE best static shock fanart i've seen on dA. i'm in love with ur version of virgil and richie. and i completley agree with u...it is a really underrated show, and we really need something like that on saturday mornings or afternoons, in place of the garbage they have now. i loved how it tackled so many different social issues on top of already great writing and wonderful characterization. i truly miss this show

Ha hah, Virgil does appear slightly feminie but that is alright. I really like how you sketched them...and I can't believe people can sketch this well in class. None of my art comes out this well even if I try really hard, lol. Oh well..maybe one day I'll ve able to do this as well and make more SS fanart. I really love the show and wish there are more fanart...I keep saying that every time I comment on a picture because it's so true! There isn't enough art of these guys....please make more if you possibly can! I love it and I want it to keep coming

When I went to the comic book store, I bought the Static comics I saw there... I am such a fan of the series, and they've actually sorta stayed true to the series.
Except I think Richie was gay in the series. I'll have to double check, but I'm vaguely sure it's Richie that's the gay one.

I remember this show... it came on just as I was discovering Slash/ Yaoi on the internet, and I definitely found them pair-able. In fact, that's what kept me watching.
I decided a few days ago to revisit the fandom. A lot of the shows/pairings I like have tiny fandoms and are things that have come-and-gone so you're not alone.

Anyway, Static Shock reallly didn't get the love it deserved. A fandom really didn't emerge until after the season was over and ran on CN. Which is a shame because it was a great show and McDuffie was really into talking with the fans on Static because it was more or less this brain child.
I love the expressions and the style. You really got Virgil and Richie.

It's sad that cartoons nowadays don't even get much attention to begin with, much less love. I know most cartoons after the 90's Golden Era aren't great, but there are a rare few that deserve acclaim, like SS, Legion of Superheroes and The Batman. I think I should pay some respects to McDuffie and grab a few SS comics when I can X)

Thank you! Gosh everyone who commented here makes me so happy! ;__; I was really upset to find that only ONE DVD was out for SS. (I'm a late fan, I knew of the cartoon when it was on but it was only recently that I watched it for the first time XD) And almost everyone I've met and asked so far have watched it and LOVED the cartoon. If only a petition would do any good T__T
OMFG I LOVE LEGION OF SUPERHEROES. That is ALSO an unknown/underappreciated fandom. (You see this pattern of mine??) I started watching the cartoon a while back but it got hard to keep up with *shakes fist at college* but I love everything I've seen so far. *o* Totally get me involved in your fic! [link] -> Has nearly all the LOSH episodes and a bunch of the Static Shock ones. Season one LOSH is my fave and I love all of Static Shock but my love for it grew when Richie became Gear. And I've signed petitions too and recently asked if they were ever planning to put more Static Shock on DVD on the WB site. I haven't gotten my question answered on the site yet... >_<

A;SEIFJS; I LOVE BRAINY TOO *___* He was cute in the 1st season but he's so HOT in the 2nd (I felt a little dirty when I said that.) The first proper ep I saw of LoSH was the one where Brain was doing a battle simulation with a virtual Superman and he had SUCH an obvious crush on him XDDDD I particularly love the 2nd season because it gives opportunity for SupermanX/Brainy/Superman >8DDD Omg I KNOW, when the hell are they gonna air a new ep?? Static Shock will always be the best after-school cartoon. I was highly disappointed when they took it off the air, but thank God for Veoh and Youtube. I actually re-discovered this show a few months back, and watched every episode in the span of like 4 days. XD It was crazy. I'm ecstatic (uh...lame pun, but it wasn't intended) that someone's finally drawing fanart, since there's a serious lack of SS art on dA. :3 Btw, Richie in Your Style = <3

It got canned because the studio was too small and lacked financial backing from toy companies that didn't want to make toys for a black main character. Or so my friend says, which is probably true. u_u
