XD I used an ancient version of photoshop. It was before the CS era. Like photoshop 6 or something like that? I'm very suprised this piece or this page is getting any views XD I should really post up some of my professional work lol

I  see, its because i got into the whole comic book hero thing just recently and ive been trying to learn how to make comic style lineart in photoshop and how to color as well since i created my own comic universe.

The best way myself and other professionals do it (which I also did with this piece) is to scan in traditional line art, (easier if it's inked already) and then color it from there. My best friend colors for Archie comics sometimes. He has some great tutorials on coloring for comics and how to start up your own if you're interested. You can also catch him doing live streams. I will also be live streaming soon too some of my pencil work for those interested.

Alright thanks I added him. The issue also is, that I do not know how to ink, I mean ive just recently got good with the whole comic styled anatomy for example.

Nice! No worries on that. The more you do it the better off you'll be. One of the best pieces of advice i ever received was to just keep drawing. The natural differences in how you draw the proportions of your characters will not only eventually evolve into a style, but will also define your work as uniquely yours. Emulate but don't imitate, reference but don't copy, and always be on the look out to increase your mental visual library.

Try using the smudge tool on the tips of the fire. That will make it look more natural.

good to know! thanks! I used the tool alot on there but I wasn't very good at it lol. So if you have any knowledge on photoshop please let me know! I just started a class on it and am very happy with some of the newer results but I am still lacking the skills lol

I would set the pressure very low and use a lot of small, quick strokes on it - and save often since you will be making a lot of changes and photoshop can only go back like what, 10 or 15 steps.

from what I've seen, you indeed are getting better. BGs are always tremendously difficult - as for me. What should comfort you is that the figure itself is very very effective, the muscles, the pose and everything, it work great together. Thank you for dropping a line

That is a solid design.....I know what you mean about the fire, I had trouble with it as well in my entries.

BlueWolfD In reply to jtwilber1 [2008-08-30 22:39:50 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it's not easy at all.... Thanks for the look though! and the compliment as well! I am by no meanssatisfied with this as of yet but i will work to make sure I get better

jtwilber1 In reply to BlueWolfD [2008-08-31 03:28:36 +0000 UTC]

When I did my entries for the contest, I had my problems as well. My 2nd one was supposed to have his symbol as the background, but the fire looks like crap...it looks like he is letting a big and it caught on fire. I can ususally draw and color fire better old school than with Photoshop.

BlueWolfD In reply to jtwilber1 [2008-08-31 04:25:57 +0000 UTC]

yeah old style with color pencil works better

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jtwilber1 In reply to BlueWolfD [2008-08-31 11:52:31 +0000 UTC]

or even Prismacolor markers and a blender, or watercolor works good for me as well, you just have to have heavy paper and I do not always have it to use.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BlueWolfD In reply to jtwilber1 [2008-08-31 12:14:43 +0000 UTC]

I know huh? lol around here the prisma color stuff is expensive so i have been only using it for my art classes

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jtwilber1 In reply to BlueWolfD [2008-08-31 12:19:32 +0000 UTC]

I have a set of Prismacolor markers and a couple of sets of colored pencils [ebay is nice some times]but I am very stingy with the use of them, because the cost of replacing them is so high....I can get some good results with Prang and Roseart colored pencils and some markers.

thank you, thank you...pffft I am not that cocky, thanks for the compliment man, I like your stuff as well.....glad to hear that I ain't the only one who still likes to kick it [art wise] old school..[ wow that sounded almost hip-hop cool, i think i need some chains or something around my neck, or a grill in my mouth for when i talk like that word.
