Description

Here’s a continuation of my predications for characters for Smash on the Nintendo Switch. This time we’ll focus on 3rd party characters, some characters will be from the same company and apparently there’s a spread rumor that “you can’t have more than one character from a single party company”, yeah well tell that to Sonic and Bayonetta who are both Sega characters and Mega Man and Ryu who are both Capcom characters. If characters like Bayonetta and Cloud Strife can make in Smash then it’s fair to say the possibilities are endless within reason, let’s get started!

Shadow the Hedgehog, Eggman, and Metal Sonic

Chances? Shadow the Hedgehog (Moderate), Eggman (Low), Metal Sonic (Low)

Why? With Sega now owned by Nintendo and Sonic being the face of Sega its safe to say the blue blur is going to stick around, especially since he’s appeared in two different Smash Bros. Shadow the Hedgehog and Knuckles the Echidna have been a huge demand and Shadow was an Assist Trophy which means Shadow being an actual character may be a possibility. He’s also high in popularity as Sega even made a game specifically for Shadow and he’s also popular in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. For Shadow’s final smash I’d say Chaos Blast would be the best bet. Eggman I didn’t even consider unless for a potential boss fight like in Subspace or a stage challenge like Ridley and Metal Face, until Bower Jr. became a character. Bower Jr. and Eggman aren’t so different, they both fight in a floating vehicle they use to get around and are both equip with gadgets. In Sonic Adventure 2 he fights in it and in the arcade game Sonic the Fighters he’s in a similar vehicle with arms, he can use the wrecking ball or even fire a few missiles. He’d be a prefect villain to add and for his final smash either the Death Egg Robot or what I’d really want the Egg Dragoon since it’s appeared in 3 Sonic games now. Metal Sonic is bit of a long shot and if he did make an appearance I’m afraid he’ll just be another copycat of Sonic, but I still want him! Maybe throwing in his Black Shield for defense, make him fast but heavy so jumping may be a challenge, and for his final smash I can see his Overdrive attack which he can move around like Super Sonic or he scans everyone on the stage and transforms into Metal Madness or Overlord. Out of these three I think Shadow has a better shot.

Shovel Knight, Shantae, Cuphead and Mugman, and Papyrus and Sans

Chances? Shovel Knight (High), Shantae (Moderate), Cuphead and Mugman (Low), Papyrus and Sans (Moderate)

Why? Nintendo has supported Indie for a long time now and it’s time for a representative of Indie to make an appearance, one of which being Shantae the half-genie. Shantae is unique and gaining popularity now that her games are released in Japan and she’s no stranger to Nintendo consoles. Her hair would be her main offense, but she also has other abilities like shapeshifting and magic. She can transform into an elephant for a down smash, her harpy form for recovery, as for her final smash that’s going to be hard to figure out, but Nintendo will give her something that bests suits her. As fantastic as Shantae is, she’s not as popular or widely known as Shovel Knight. Out of the Indie games Shovel Knight has left a huge impact and became a huge money maker, not only that he’s made appearances in 4 other Indie games and even has his own amiibo. Like Shantae Shovel Knight would be a unique fighter, not just for his shovel but the possibilities for the use of his relics and he has a lot of them. For final smash, maybe he’ll dig up boulders that hit the stage or maybe a combo attack with Shield Knight. Cuphead and Mugman were a hit and I can see them as a duo like the Ice Climbers, but as much as I think they would be a good addition I feel like their chances are slim, slim but not impossible. Undertale is also another hit, especially with Sans popularity. While I can see both these characters as a duo, I can also see Sans as a single character and maybe imply Papyrus for his final smash. I want these characters, but I feel like Shovel Knight will make the list.

Sora, Noctis Lucis Caelum, and 2B

Chances? Sora (High), Noctis (Low), 2B (Low)

Why? With Kingdom Hearts 3 on the way, what better way to promote the game than adding Sora to Smash? Not only is he a high demand, but next to Cloud Sora is one of Square Enix’s most iconic characters. His potential move set is… kind of terrifying, if you’ve played the games he’s got a flashy move set and his aerial combat is ridiculous! They can be about as over kill as Bayonetta’s, maybe worse! Plus, just on his design alone he would blend perfectly in Smash. As for final smash, I’m thinking either his final form with the white and black keyblades or an epic team up attack with Riku like in their fight with Xenmas. As for Noctis, while he’s Final Fantasy’s most recent character and with his Royal Arms a prefect potential as a character I feel like his popularity isn’t that high compared to Cloud’s. He’s already a guest character in Tekken 7 so for him to be another guest character in Smash is kind of low, but I would still be okay if he was brought into the fray. As for his final smash either Limit Breaker or like his fight with Ardyn Izunia and the Leviathan fly around the stage firing weapons everywhere. 2B was built for combat and she’d be another good female contender. I can see her weapons being used in her moveset; her swords, spears, giant swords, and gauntlets. Her Pod can also fire projectiles as she’s fighting increasing damage but it would have to be something like Fox’s blaster to make it somewhat fair. With her increase in popularity in just a short time it might be possible, plus hearing the Nier Automata soundtrack in Smash would be amazing! Her final smash would have to be one of her Pod’s chip plug-in’s or she can call for her Flight Unit and can beam sword everyone and fire missiles and lasers as she’s flying around the stage. Out of the three Sora has a better chance of getting into Smash.

Tracer

Chances? (Low)

Why? We got characters from Sega, Capcom, and Square Enix, so why not Blizzard? Overwatch is huge in the gaming community and as popular as Overwatch is Tracer would be a prefect Blizzard representative. Out of the Overwatch roster, Tracer is practically the poster girl to the game and I think she would blend in well with the likes of Mario, Link, even Samus. Her recovery can be her Blink ability, standard B button or side B can be her Pulse Pistols and it would be cool if she can run and fire like Mega Man can, I don’t know how she would use her Recall ability? Maybe a counter? But her final smash would definitely be her Pulse Bomb. She would be a speedy character but wouldn’t take hits well due to her frail figure. Plus it would be nice to have an original female character that’s not a skin for a character.

Ruby Rose

Chances? Low

Why? It’s another long shot but hear me out; RWBY is a rising franchise, has a game already with a sequel on the way, and she along with her team mates and the cast of Persona 4 are in the crossover game Blazblue Cross Tag Battle so she isn’t new to gaming. She would be another potential female character and it would help promote Roosterteeth a lot. Her neutral B attack would be her sniper mode, side B an attack with her scythe or that drill attack she did during the food fight, and down B would be firing her sniper rifle downward. Her final smash maybe a combo attack with her team mates over something involved with her Silver Eyes but very unlikely since we’re not that far in the series.

Perry the Platypus

Chances? Not Happening, Never

Why? This was more of a joke but I think it would be interesting if Disney threw in a character. I can see Mickey but he is the face of Disney and Square Enix has him for Kingdom Hearts, asking for Mickey would be like asking a gift from God himself. There are other fighters like anyone from The Incredibles, Maui from Moana, or Stitch from Lilo & Stitch. I seriously doubt anyone from Disney would make an appearance but doesn’t hurt to hope. Plus Perry’s theme is epic and I would love to listen to it during a fight, he knows how to fight and has a couple of gadgets on him so moveset wise anything is possible.
