I'm not a huge fan of the Madagascar films personally. I think the franchise got better once the third film came around.

I'm still amazed that Dreamworks actually gave a female hippo an ass. Then they animated some shots where you can see that ass in full, and put it in a kids movie. I always thought that Dreamworks wanted to make adult films without being PG13 or R Rated.

I can't say I'm that surprised because with a hippo character you'd want to emphasize their size- that they are big and large. So, I'm pretty sure that was the idea, though they REALLY surprising thing is that the three movies all have, at some point, focused on her ass, but nobody has ever made a joke about it; I know its supposed to be visual humor, and just part of Gloria as a character, but I don't think it's that big of a stretch to say that her ass gets quite a bit of attention and it is animated in a pretty... noticeable fashion (just talking strictly animation, pay attention to how it bounces and jiggles- that kind of detail is not animated by accident), and that it is done for fanservice. I'm not saying it's the only reason, but would you be surprised if that turned out to be true?
You're not alone on that- I mean just look at the original Shrek, which WAS meant for adults in the same way that the original Looney Tunes shorts were back in the 40's and 50's- there's nothing about them that restrict kids from seeing them, but it's pretty clear who they're trying to appeal to with their humor.
