I haven't drawn these two (together?) for TWO YEARS, WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME D8 *beaten* I've more or less declared this year to be the year I've started catching up on drawing RECENT ART of everybody, heheh >>; (or at least attempting)

But yes... last month, due to the whole being snatched off to Ontario and then struggling to get back on top of comic buffer mess, this picture was the only big finished "normal" art I did all month (save for kaourika's birthday gift, and some inked sketches I did). It came out rather nice (despite the fact I was waighing all over at how behind I was, lulz).

Was musing over some Graff and Beatriceness at the time, during the time of their first meeting. It's obviously changed in story, over the years, due to change in storyline format and such. But the big meeting is still the same: Graff was seriously injured in battle (hence where his scars come from), and Beatrice was the one assigned to attend him in the hospital (she's a nurse, either almost or just having recently passed med school. She either works under or with Dr. Coover [link] which is why he's a family friend/physician).

To cover some earlier details: battle is pretty much refering to the big war against the humans (the Tierewesen won |D *hit* That's what humans get for opting for SUICIDE MISSION = aka: war with the race that's stronger numbered than them. Idiots ), and it took place in modern country/city, whereas, Graff is from "old country", which is where people still live primitive lifestyles and such. He probably would've rotted down there, had his old buddy Svein not scooped him up a second time, and suggested Graff join him, heading up to "new country" (modern country/city) and giving those human bastards hell (seeing as the Tierewesen had FINALLY declared war as well, and a call to arms, to any able bodied Tierseien who wanted to join the battle).

Anyway 8D; Getting back to Graff and Beatrice! Now as said... Graff was raised in old country, hence he's very... naive, in regards to modern behaviour. Beatrice, on the other hand, was born in old country, but immigrated with her mother Eleanor, when she was six, hence was more or less raised in new country, which is why her behaviour is fairly modern.

As she treats Graff back to health, she learns that he's pretty much on his own (all his family is dead by then) and has nowhere to go. Feeling sympathy for him (and being reminded of how frightened and alone she and her mother were, when they first came to new country), Beatrice offers Graff a place to stay, in the spare bedroom of her own apartment, and offers to help him adjust to modern ways.

Graff is, needless to say, taken aback at the forwardness of the offer. Beforehand, he's never so much as dealt with females, aside from his mother and baby sister, much less a woman his own age. Obviously, he's used to females being of more modest character, and he sees her generousity as uncharacteristic forward ness, and is daunted by it. But seeing as he has no other better options, considering he has no idea what to do with himself then, he takes the offer.

After that, them being roommates, Beatrice is eager to make proper friends with Graff and get to know him better, which still intimidates him, slightly, seeing as he's still reeling over the fact that he's living with an unmarried female (which to his modern culture/mindset is SCANDULOUS). But as he observes others and the ways of modern culture, he eventually adjusts to the change, grows at ease with Beatrice.

Obviously, more things eventually happen as well, but that's a story for another day

This particular image here is just basically capturing a scene of these two, early on in their relationship/friendship. When Graff is still pretty shy around Beatrice, and wondering why she seems so interested in him and what he has to say Background wise, I was going for a small park or pathway, with a bench. Tried some different tree trunks too. Fwoot~
