"People often say that 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder,' and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing that you are the beholder. This empowers us to find beauty in places where others have not dared to look, including inside ourselves."

Quality

I'm usualy a hi-contrast kinda Cat, but I like this and the other similar lo-contrast self portraits in your gallery; somehow the greyness works well with these images, particularly this one. Altho' it is a tad blurry.

At different times both me & Ishtar have tried that sort of angled bob haircut…but it looked quite dreadful on both of us! In my opinion there aren't many people who can carry it off well, but you are one of the few on who it looks ultracool because your features & bone structure have just the right sort of Svelte Elegance…you remind me somewhat of Kristine Scott-Thomas or 1920s IT Girl vamp Clara Bow…altho' your vivid hair colour adds a contempary twist.

Of course, on a monochrome photo like this those colours don't show, and the combo of the styling, photography & manipulation gives the impression that this might be a still from a 1920s silent film. From this perspective, the slight blurriness actualy adds to that ambiance, and so becomes a Good Thang. Perhaps this was your intention all along!?

Anyway, a def fav

*blushes* Oh tish, no I'm not…not yet anyway! *deranged manic delusional laughter*

I'm afraid I can't help much with camera advice. I know a fair bit about film SLRs - I was one of them anti-digital film purists for a long time, but now, for various reasons, I'm a digital convert. Thing is I'm up to my fangs in debt so I can't afford a digi SLR.

I currently use a mid-price digital compact(which isn't actually mine, it belongs to my g/f). It's OK , but the lens is a bit meh and altho' there's some degree of manual control, obviously yer don't get total control of shutter speed / apeture / manual focus and other such stuff crucial to the artistic photographer. Sometimes I still use my Zenit-E (an old film 35mm SLR – it's a cheap bottom of the range model that I've had forever, and the light meter is pretty fucked up these days, but the lens is good). I had to sell my Bronica (medium format film camera which produced top notch prof quality images) so I could eat and such.

I'm hoping that if digital camera prices continue to fall, and if I somehow escape the Curse that haunts me and am once again in a position to get a bit of cash together, I'll be able to buy a digi SLR. Thing is I don't know much about the current camera market.

There must be some info on the net somewhere for such folks as us...
Cheap Digital SLRs for Artsy Fuckwits.com or suchlike!

Let's make a deal…if one of us finds such info, we'll let the other one know and send a link; wha'd'ya reckon?

Thanx for your kind words regarding my feeble attempts at humour and such! But in sooth I am like the clown who draws on a greasepaint smile to hide his Melancholy. So my g/f is not quite as fortunate as you imagine. She's very cool & very beautiful and 'could do so much better for herself' as they say. But she stays with me, 'cos she's sweet that way. She is the one light in the waking nightmare of my life.

That is part of the reason why - in the artist comment box of the photos of her in my Gallery - I always refer to her as my star in the darkness.
