Description
So finally it's done! Here're customs for some unnamed characters from Touhou 05: Mystic Square. Yea they have no official names from ZUN yet and seldomly appeared in fans works.
By the way, among the PC-98 works, Mystic Square is my most favourite. I believe this is because of the Makai setting and Mai is there. Basically I can see that there're four elements in Mystic Square's storyline: fire, ice, light and darkness, mostly based on types of magic used by PC-98 Alice in extra stage. XP
Anyway, a little introductions here:
-Wheel Demon / Masharin: The demon with wheel-looking ring behind her. She was shown as stage 1 midboss.
-Lusia: A girl who looks close to Luize, with alternate hair colour and ghostly aura around her. She was shown as stage 4 midboss.
-Trump King: A poker card looking soldier appeared as midboss in extra stage (where the Alice in the Wonderland lies). It has picture of Jack on its face.
-Spirit Mirror: A mirror shown in stage 2 as midboss. It changes to its alternate form after its life is halved. (The custom is already available in vanilla prop. The custom in the zip file is its alternate form.)
-General Makai Demons: Like fairies, they appears as general enemies in the game. The most frequent can be found in stage 5, where all four types of demons showed up one by one. There are four colours of them: red (fire, which looks close to wheel demon), blue (ice), green (light) and pink (darkness).
-Makai Fairies: I wonder if fairies are able to live in Makai. XD Anyway, there're two types of fairies can be found in Mystic Square, which is red fairy in stage 4 and white fairy in extra stage.
-Cross Demons / Windmills: I'm used to call it this way because there's haven't a proper naming for them yet. Some demons which look like cross and spinning around when they appeared on the screen. They can be found in stage 4 and extra stage. Same as makai demons, there're four types of them: red (fire), blue (ice), yellow (light) and purple (darkness).
-PC-98 Alice's Doll: Dolls used by PC-98 Alice in stage 3. One of the spell used by Alice is using her dolls to create a mirror between them, and reflect (or refract) her Danmaku into small wide-range bullets.
-Poker Soldiers: General poker card looking soldiers in extra stage. They have shape of black spade, red heart, black clover and red diamond on them respectively. (I'm certainly believe it's a reference to Alice in the Wonderland)
I hope you guys enjoy the customs.
Included in the zip file:
- All customs with scale of x50, x100, x200, x300 and x400 seperately.
- Seperate parts for each customs.
- Recolourable base for Makai demon, fairy and doll.
- Screenshots correspond to each characters.

Big applause to for his Touhou Project and also PC-98 works!
Edit: Thanks to , the names for Wheel Demon and Cross Demon are suggested with another names called "Masharin" and "Windmills". I think these two sounds better. X3

It's a real shame that ZUN didn't name them, or make them real characters.

Well he did make them and they are real characters; however, he did leave them nameless, made them easily overlooked, and didn't do much with them, and I would agree that is a really huge shame, I've been enamored with them since I first took a serious look in to who they were.

What I meant by them not being real characters is that they have no official name, background or personality (as in that that ZUN hasn't confirmed that they have any), heck, even the characters from HRtP and the five magic stones had names (although technically "five magic stones" isn't a name so their only official fact is that they are the only enemy that Reimu has ever feared).
Sorry if I made you think that I thought they were fanon .

Thank you for clarifying, I was unsure of your wording, but in that sense it's true enough. I would like to point out that, originally, characters who we know now as Daiyousei and Koakuma originally started out just like these nameless midboss characters, now ZUN has been known to use these names, but not officially. Fan's devotion to the Touhou 6 midbosses that got them millions of miles, and they are unquestionably welcome Touhou characters thanks to those past efforts.
In any case, the shame lay in the fact that these midboss characters rest in an era of Touhou already obscure, and unlike Daiyousei and Koakuma, they are to this day criminally overlooked by fans who pay them no mind. Of course, there are those that are aware, and I'm thankful for that, but I want nothing more than these characters to at least get agreed upon fan names all around since we got that far with them to ZUN who shared Dai and Koa's personality, but fans still like the personalities they collectively gave when they were transformative, and that's what these character in this pack and mine still are to this day.

Yeah, they have a low chance of getting fan names since the PC-98 era isn't as popular as the Windows era (not to mention that Mystic Square, the last PC-98 game, was years ago).

It's not to late for them. It's a goal of mind to get these characters the love and care they need to not be left completely behind and forgotten like some have now, and besides, I'm not giving up on the chance or potential they hold, Noroiko, Matenshi, Rengeteki, and Ayana got fan names many years after they were conceived, so it's never too late for these characters either.

Here's Noroiko , Matenshi , Rengeteki , and Ayana . Heck, Rin Satsuki is a part of these characters I include in this effort too, though she's outside of PC-98. These are all fan-named characters like Daiyousei and Koakuma.
I made a Walfas custom set of them and the two others left completely nameless since KirbyM didn't include them in Walfas outside of Rengeteki, and Bluyidark made this deviation in response to my comment .
So basically... I'm trying to get characters like the ones in this deviation and my Walfas custom project more known so they aren't left behind and forgotten; that is my goal as a Touhou fan who has wanted to contribute something back to the series since the Touhou Project itself helped me from being left behind and forgotten. I wouldn't be where I am today without it.

Personally considering how much she resembles Rumia. And her apparent control of light. Maybe the wheel demon should be known as Lumia?

DeityDiz93 In reply to ImprovmanZero [2015-10-22 05:39:15 +0000 UTC]
I don't know if she actually can control light, but know that my interpretation is based off what happens in-game, and there isn't really any light being controlled from this character there. If I had to assume, what you might be basing this off of is when you see the hit-blink that happens when a foe gets hit by a player shot.
Also, if you look at the behavior in-game, the wheel acts like a shield to the character and whether or not it was channeled or perhaps something that was bestowed to the character is up in the air, as I'm sure any of the demons like this one would probably do that if they could as well.
To be fair here, other demons like Masharin spread their arms out too, just look at Stage 5/6 of Mystic Square and you can see many that spread their arms out too outside of their left and right movements, that, and Rumia doesn't share the same color palettes other then being blond.

This is the other variant of Louise you see in stage 4, however it's actually up in the air whether that's the same character or not given ZUN's tendency to reuse same sprites under another color much like with the Wheel Demon.
It's kind of like with Lily White and Lily Black, some people consider them separate, but they could be the same character with a different outfit/form. It's entirely up to interpretation which is what is happening here too me thinks.

Lily White & Black ARE the same character. Black is just White dressed as Eiki.

DeityDiz93 In reply to Goomba98 [2015-12-21 08:06:51 +0000 UTC]
I myself actually agree with that, but it hasn't stopped people from categorizing Lily White and Lily Black as separate.
When I said that I should have specified that ZUN stated they are the same character, but I forgot to take that into account due to faultiness of the memory, but yes, you are correct.

*SCREAMING, HYPERVENTILATING*
IT'S OUT, OH, HOW I'VE LONGED TO SEE THIS DAY COME TO BE.
THIS IS 768 files and 21 FOLDERS OF SHEER SWEET STUPENDOUS AWESOMENESS.
Ahem, whew! Wow, oh my Shinki, I was absolutely floored to see this come to be, Hotaru, I cannot believe you when so above and beyond what I had original expected from your notes to me about this project. This is by far, hands down, the most well put together concentrated pack of customs I have ever seen before. It's so true to the originals that my eyes could melt.
This takes the cake too as it's based off of Touhou 5, my very favorite Touhou game as well! You have won so many favors by doing this; I seriously appreciate the amount of hard work and dedication it must have taken you to complete such a pack, it must have really been a grueling process, but you can be assured that there is going to have to be a good pay off for this hard work.
Hotaru this is marvelous in every way, shape, and form. This is beyond fantastic. You did so much better then I could have ever hoped to have done with my plans to make characters like this someday. I built mine off of the vanilla Walfas assets while you took some more original approaches to this and it's so grandiose and great. Honestly, you outdid yourself, and it's league better then what I would have done if I had decided to make something of this caliber myself.
That's because you cared enough for the under-appreciated parts of the PC-98, and you spent a few solid chucks of your free time to get this out to us all. For all of this, I sincerely and whole-heartedly thank you oh so very much for creating this as one of the few that really does care for the unloved parts of the Touhou Project's cast of characters.
These are of fantastic quality and and quantity, they are beautifully made and very true to Walfas's artstyle. I'm very thankful to you and honestly Walfas will feel a lot more complete now in my eyes. For that, I will revel in this hard work for a very long time, I hope my comment here was able to at least give you at least some of the pay off of making this!
Thank you a million times over once again, Hotaru, for both this pack and the mention! In return I give you my favorite, my download, my comment, and a Llama for good measure!

Thanks Diz.
It was not really "grueling" since I enjoyed the time I did the customs.
Anyway, I hope there will be more coming comics involving PC98 unnamed characters, or even better, PC98 era X Windows era! This will get the Touhou community becomes merrier.
Also, thanks a lot for the llama! I really appreciate it!

If you had fun with it, then it's all the more better! Certainly I said what I did because grueling itself means 'requiring great effort' which it certainly must have required, but the overall point is that it's fantastic work.
Also, you just now landed a spot in the Featured folder. Trust me, the admins all think that you deserve it especially me.

These are all very high-quality customs! Though we have very different nomenclature...
Wheel Demon - I like to call her "Masharin,"(魔車輪) because it's the same thing, only in Japanese. This is to fit in with the theme of other nameless midbosses, such as Daiyousei (Great Fairy) and Koakuma (Little Demon).
Lusia - I've taken to jokingly referring to her as "Blue-ise," as in, "I'm not Louise! I'm my original character, Blue-ise!" Though I do like to think of her as the ghost of a deceased Louise. My headcannon of of Mystic Square is very dark, okay?!
Cross Demons - This one admittedly has never been agreed upon by anyone. The wiki refers to them as Windmills. I personally call them "Will-o-wisps," though I can't even remember why I started calling them that. Honestly, call them whatever the heck you want. Call them "Billy" for as much as it matters to me. >w<
Honestly, these really want me to make something using them.

Bluyidark In reply to FullHitPoints [2015-10-21 11:29:25 +0000 UTC]
Since ZUN didn't give them proper names, I think it's the reason why we call them in different ways.
Though, I think "Masharin" and "Windmills" sound better. ^ ^
For Lusia, the name was actually given by Kaoru when I downloaded the ASC pack for Mystic Square. That thought of Lusia as ghost of Louise is 2dark4me. =w=
