I studied a lot of animated films. its kinda tricky giving animals human emotions. thanks!

you mean, see expressions in animated films and put them to your character?

I mostly read about how they solved problems. For instance, many animals don't have eyebrows, so its hard to show expression, but you can add a spot around their eye (like many animals have) and treat it as an eyebrow (Kung Fu Panda did that, too). Another problem is with no whites of eyes, its hard to show which direction the character is looking, so they added that to their characters. Personally, I like the solid black eyes, so I kept them, but it can be tricky.
But basically, exaggeration of expressions is generally best, and discarding anything that doesn't reinforce that expression.
