LOL! Very funny.
I never understood why Anakin with over a decade of Jedi training could get manipulated so easily by Palpatine. Maybe Palpatine was doing some Jedi Mind Trick on Anakin.
Luke should talk though. Vader was instrumental in horrible war crimes and genocide...but Luke says, "I can't kill my father," and "There's still good in him."

I have a theory that Palpatine had Anakin under some sort of mind-control; after all, Jedi have the Jedi Mind Trick and Palpatine is very powerful and a psychopath. Luke has his mother's ability to love unconditionally and see the good in people, which is what makes him so special and gives him the ability to save his father from himself.

The novelization of ROTS by Matt Stover points it out wonderfully why Vader clings to Palps. It says with Vader's POV after destroying the medical equipment.
