Description
Bebop and Rocksteady from TMNT (1988)Revisited these designs:
[link]
Bebop was mostly cleanup!
-The hands were reworked, the resemblance to pig's feet came out more like weird alien hands in the previous version.
-The wristbands were also revised to look more like the original designs.
[link]
Rocksteady was pretty much a complete overhaul of the last version.
-The overall physique was pushed to get more iconic rhinoceros features, such as the large neck, elongated torso, and limbs tapering down into smaller hand and feet. The distinct folds of thick rhino skin were played up more rather than making him stereotypically buff.
-The gun is a more toy-accurate M60 machine gun.
-Most of the little accessories were omitted, if Rocksteady can't be bothered to tie his shoes then why care about kneepads or any of those little belt pouches.
-The aviator cap had to go. I can't really see the justification in making a custom cap that his ears can poke through.

Very cool! Β Great designs! Β I like how you made them to scale--I always thought it was kinda weird how Bebop was the same size as Rocksteady in the cartoon, considering rhinos are enormous.

I agree with what has been said, the size difference really adds a unique touch to these two that makes sense.

That Rocksteady is awesome! He actually looks like quite an intimidating foe, rather than a dimwit. I like the scale of them. You should throw a turtle in there for reference!

I loving the fact that you changed their sizes... the fact that Rocksteady, is the bigger 1 makes perfect sense to me... C'mon he is a Rhinoceros right??!

lol And thats why there is an opportunity for redos or upgrades so something awesome such as this can manifest... chalk it up as a lesson learned

Nostalgia... I always found it a tad weird that Bebop looked as beefy as, and sometimes beefier than, Rocksteady... I like the adjustments you made to their scale and also how much rougher, more intimidating, you made them look too

Boarguts In reply to Tokoldi [2012-04-13 02:28:34 +0000 UTC]
Thanks for the very kind words!
I completely agree with the statement on Bebop. I never liked how far they went from their origins at the beginning of the series(punkrock/military) to the end when they were just generic meathead losers. I'm glad to hear the adjustments give them much more presence/purpose!

You're welcome!
Speaking of origins... What do you think about the TMNT being aliens from another dimension in the new movie?

Boarguts In reply to Tokoldi [2012-04-14 06:15:57 +0000 UTC]
I guess I'm ok with it for now. TMNT is one of those franchises that gets reinvented so often that I can tolerate different interpretations without flipping a table. What about you?

I admit I am a little wary, but I'm also ready to be surprised. I just hope it turns out to be a good surprise instead of a bad one.

Same here! Hopefully they keep the visuals simple and don't over design them like they did on Transformers.

I love seeing new takes on these guys that actually make them look cool and dangerous. They were always so painfully lame in the 80s show that even as a kid I wondered why Shredder kept them around.

I don't mind the speed but I'd love a tenth of his talent... It makes the stuff in my folder look like kid's stuff.
