Dara was looking forward to a few weeks without her demanding boss while he was on vacation. She worked very hard coordinating his calendar to make it work and got no thanks, as typical. She was breathing a sigh of relief as she saw him packing his briefcase to leave.

“Ah, Ms. Culpepper, thank you for stopping by.”

“Need anything, sir?”

“Not now, you just brought me the last of my belongings that needed packed.”

“I brought you nothing, sir.”

“Poppycock! I won’t hear you disparage yourself like that. Surely you were nothing before you met me, but look at what a worker you are now. Come along now, time to get you in my briefcase.”

Dara was stunned for a moment trying to understand his words as she felt herself embraced in warmth and then laid out on paper. She didn’t even scream until the case was closed. “Wait…did he call me his belonging?”

In the dark, she let little scared tears flow.
