With a grunt and a hard tug, waxy paper peeled back revealing pizza sized discs of candy. Plucking out her favorite, Karen was about to bite down when a booming sound surrounded her.She coyly smiled skyward. His face glowed and with a finger he waved at her to continue. She took a bite and slumped into the remainder of the candy. “It’s so good!”
He scooped her up and she leaned back against his fingers, munching on the platter. “I noticed yesterday evidence of you slipping out of your nest and sneaking around. I figured you might enjoy a little surprise for your efforts.”
“You don’t mind?”
“As long as you stay safe, not at all. So before you decide to climb down cables or prowl around on the floor, perhaps give me a heads up.”
She nodded, then sat down the candy and rubbed her tummy, “Ugh, I think I ate too much.” Her bite marks were almost invisible. He took the candy and sat it with the others.
“No worries, it will keep for later.” He watched as she curled into a ball in his hand and fell asleep. He pet her with his free hand and was glad she was happy.
