It began simple enough, Tammy and her boyfriend had planned to go to the Alistair Traveling Fair after seeing the ads. When he broke up with her under strange circumstances, she doggedly decided that she would go regardless.

The fair was pleasant if a touch odd. However after a few rides and a corn dog that didn’t sit quite right, she found herself sitting on a bench reflecting on what was. One of the carnies approached and asked her if everything was ok. Something in the genuineness of his face made her overflow with everything that she kept locked inside.

He thoughtfully smiled and nodded the whole time, taking her hand at one point to offer a connection. When she asked him if he had any recommendations, he offered that during the Middle Ages mazes were a popular method to meditate and some believed they brought one closer to divine understanding. He handed her a ticket and suggested that she try their maze.

Tammy hugged the man and nodded. Setting off into the maze she found that he was correct. Instead of the anxiety she expected to feel, he reframed the experience into one of reflection. It was calm and comforting. In fact it was so calm, she did not notice the lights dimming until they were essentially out.

At that point she felt the walls, counting them, to confirm that she was trapped. The ground began to shake and an earsplitting thunder filled the air, “Hank your package arrived!”

Tammy’s ears perked up as Hank was the name of her ex. Was she about to receive the divine insight promised?

A tearing sound was accompanied by light pouring in. The monstrous face of Margaret, Hank’s new girlfriend, came into view. Her laughter was deafening causing Tammy to grab her ears. This allowed Margaret easy access to encircle Tammy’s waist. “Worked better than we could ever imagine.”
