Deidre smiled as she held the quivering Beth in her palm. Her tiny body rocker with whimpers and tears. Stifling a giggle, Deidre pet the woman she was expecting to be her future sister in law between the shoulder blades. Some might have mistaken it for a show of compassion and comfort, but in reality it was just a prelude to show Beth she was now a toy.

“How could you do this Deidre? Use your black magic?”
“Hold up there little witch. I am a biochemist not a voodoo priestess. Had you not cheated on Jamal and had some other guys kid, you wouldn’t be here.”
“It was Jamal’s child!”
“Mmm, the kid looked nothing like you and everything like that Mark dude you hang around with. I thought you were going to be my sister, but it’s ok, I don’t mind having a doll instead.”
“But who will…”
“Take care of that child? Jamal has a bigger heart than you. He loves you so much he didn’t care where the child came from. Well I do and I don’t want to see him hurt again. So we will raise your mistake and I’ll get Jamal a real woman that will take care of him.”
“What will happen to…me?”
“I have the rest of your tiny life to figure that out. For now, you’ll be my purse companion. Goodbye.”

Deidre shoved Beth into her purse and clasped it shut. In a short moment of pause, Deidre wondered if she did the right thing. Beth’s disappearance will hurt Jamal too. She steeled her resolve. She knew Beth would eventually run away. She’ll eventually give her to Jamal now that Beth will never be able to run away again.
