Description
It was a nice day to be outside. So I decided to hike a trail I had seen a few days back but was fairly overgrown. It needed someone to tread it down. Once I passed through some massive ferns at the trailhead, I was greeted by the most magical of hikes I had ever been on.

I was almost in a trance taking in the sighted and sounds of this trail. I heard some crunching as I walked, but didn't think much of it. It was an unkempt trail so there were bound to be branches and other things that would make that sound. After about an hour I was confronted by quite a stirring. Looking at my feet, there was a mob of people that stood maybe 6 inches tall. A man with a long beard approached.

"Dear giant, you are causing us such misery trampling our houses and fields. Please stop this invasion of our land." The old man was beseeching me.

I was intrigued and kneeled down. "Oh, I didn't know you were back here, or that there were people your size." I locked eyes with this raven haired image of radiance, she was wearing a white gown. "I was just walking this trail that appeared dormant."

"Please go back and close the trail. I am prepared to give you my daughter to end this pain. Please lower your hand so she may climb aboard. She will travel with you and ensure you have closed the path. Do this and she will live with you happily for all your days. Don't, or try and hurt her, she will kill you painfully and slow."

"Listen...I will head back and close the trail. You can't just give me a person..." I was confused at their ways.

"We don't take kindly to those who refuse our generosity. However, you have a point that she will miss her home and family. So on our most special holidays, which she will know well, you will be allowed to bring her home and celebrate with us. You may also come back if she is sick or injuried so our healers can mend her."

This sounded better. I lowered my hand and my heart leapt when it was the raven hair girl who crouched in it. I lifted her to my face and studied her for a moment. She had tiny hazel eyes and soft pink lips.

I raised a finger to touch her shoulder and she leaned away from it. "Oh sorry, you seemed nervous and I wanted to reassure you."

"Man Mountain, you can reassure me when the trail is closed. Until then I will be watchful for tricks so that I can kill you." Her focus was clear.

"Yes ma'am. Do you have a name I can call you?" I asked trying to escalate the situation.

"You can only have me and my name when your task is done." She grunted.

I nodded and waved goodbye to the people of this tiny village and set off. My heart was a flutter with this beautiful woman in my palm. I moved slower out of fear I would drop her or my movements would cause her distress. When we reached the trailhead it was approaching dusk.

"Ok, little one, let me put you down. I need to remove these blazes and drag some trees across the opening."

Before I could do anything she leapt from my hand and climbed a nearby tree. I had never seen such a display of agility, speed or strength. It was a hard few hours work but I was able to make it clear the trail was closed. I also placed some markings on the other side of the pile to further communicate the dangers of traveling any further.

I collapsed on the ground in exhaustion. As I was gasping and panting, I felt a weight climb up into my lap and up my shirt. A soft fluttering touched my lips. The tiny woman, who I had put out of my mind while working, was smiling at me. She had just kissed my lower lip.

"My name is Rena. You are my hero. Take me to your home so I can help you rest." She slipped into my shirt pocket and I could feel her hugging my chest.

Today was a good day.
