I LOVED that part in the anime. She got 'dressed up' for that fight scene. XD I was reading your blog entry about the visit and I'm totally psyched out about how much interaction goes on between America's beloved animation studios and Japan's. Having said that, I'm hoping you guys (Pixar) will start borrowing some of Gainax's craziness if you know what I mean. I'd LOVE to see that level of zaniness in movies more often. Maybe not quite as out there...as FLCL (or Panty and Stocking) but getting there. Like Emperor's New Groove only wackier. That was a wacky movie; loved it.
And while I'm thinking about it, when I was little, I wanted to work for an animation studio in Japan either doing voice acting or animating and it occurred to me that it might not happen. At the time, I didn't think America and Japan were so...connected and I thought that if I -did- move to Japan to find work, that I wouldn't be so lucky because I would be a foreigner. But that's changed now, almost entirely. Gainax has shown me that not everyone in Japan is anti-American and that in fact a lot of the younger half of the culture is actually obsessed with us about as much as our teenie boppers are obsessed with them. Having said that, I could probably hop on a boat to Japan after learning some Japanese and be well accepted into society. What's ironic about that is I don't have the same dream as I used to anymore. So if I did go to Japan, it wouldn't be a permanent stay. I am glad to see though that our two countries are not so different and that we generally get along pretty well. The older generation of Japanese is more traditional and probably still holds a grudge against us for the A-bomb fiasco, but...they're getting waaayyy out numbered by the present generation...which just so happens to love the hell out of us, lmao.

This is also one of my favourite shots from the film, it was animated by Tetsuya Nishio and after that when she walks on the gun, was You Yoshinari's work. Nostalgia XD
