Please only put this stamp on your page if your page is safe and inclusive for all of the things within the LGBT+ spectrum, including other genders and trans* people and sexualities other than gay.So I was browsing dA looking for a nice LGBT stamp to put on my about me so y'all know that this is a safe space?? But the "LGBT stamp" search on dA yields basically only "gay gay GAY PRIDE GAY MARRIAGE" which is not really how LGBT works and the rest was mostly "LGBT pride" which wasn't really what I was looking for so I made a stamp of my own.

really not a fan of all the anti-safe space comments, this is a pretty unproblematic positivity stamp, no need for all the irrational negitivity.
by "safe space" people don't mean a place where you go and pretend the "real world" doesn't exist. a safe space is a place you can just feel safe, those places might not be common for certain people, some people feel unsafe in most places even including their own home.
by "lgbt+ safe space" the stamp means your page is safe for lgbt+ people where they won't be attacked, harassed, or invalidated for being lgbt+. because often times, it's still not fully safe to be openly lgbt+, for example, going to your school where there are people who would harass or attack someone for being lgbt+ means the school is not an lgbt+ safe space.Β
people aren't looking for a closet they can pretend is a mythical world of fantasy and unicorns and rainbows where everything is perfect, where they can pretend the world doesn't exist and that they won't get their feelings hurt by anything. people are looking for other people who are simply openly accepting of who they are.
it's really not that hard to understand.

A safe place merely means somewhere that marginalized people are safe from harassment. Such as an area where LGBT+ people can be themselves without fear of mistreatment that could end up with straight-up murder. We'll give up our safe spaces when people stop killing us for existing.

No, a safe space is a designated area where marginalized people can go to stop their feelings from being hurt. This constant shielding from the outside world prevents them from being able to ever stick up for themselves, because they've never had their ideas be challenged.
And this isn't the 19th century, the chances of you being murdered for being LGBT are near zero in western countries. Unless you live in the middle east or Africa (where they probably wouldn't give a shit about your safe spaces) you don't really have any reason for them.

Hmm... let's break down those statistics:
23 transgender deaths due to fatal violence in 2016... most statistics I've seen say there's around 15,000 homicides each year, give or take a few thousand. Let's say around 0.2% of the population is trans. (Though that's being generous, considering most sources say it's closer to 0.5%) That means there should be 30 transgender homicides a year. So while some of the murders could very well have been because of prejudice, the numbers are pretty normal.Β
And yes, the number of transgender homicides is slowly rising, but so is the total population of trans people.

Break down the statistics all you want, but the point is you said that people weren't killed for being LGBT anymore. They are, and it's frighteningly often!
The second worst mass shooting in American history was a hate crime.
And that was in Pulse, a gay bar, which is supposed to be a safe space in the first place - so don't worry, we're just as likely to be murdered in our own spaces anyway! You don't need to take those away from us, bigots will find a way to spill our blood either way.
The reason people don't like safe spaces is either 1) They feel like it's a secret club they're not allowed to get into and they're so used to being handed everything they want that they throw a tantrum, or 2) They feel as though they should be allowed to spew their hatred everywhere and anywhere.

When I say trans, I mean people who have already transitioned, not people with gender dysphoria. So yes, the population is rising because more people are going on hormones.
And I never claimed that LGBT people aren't being killed anymore, I said the chances of you being killed solely for being LGBT are near zero. Plus, while that mass shooting was horrible, it was still only committed by one person, so it doesn't make sense to use one extreme case to prove that anti-LGBT prejudice and violence as a whole are rising. (It's like saying that because you got a pack of all yellow skittles, they must be making more yellow skittles than usual)
And no, those aren't the only two reasons why somebody would dislike safe spaces. Like I've said before, I don't like them because they're small echo chambers where nobody's ideas are ever challenged.

Like you're treating safe spaces like a baby pen when in reality it's just a space where you can be you without having to be on constant defence and it applies to everyone, not just LGBT people. Marginalised people just have a bigger need for it.
