No one above the age of 6 can watch LazyTown seriously.
Those between 6 to 12 completely eschew LazyTown for being childish, those 13 to 17 watch it to pass the time in channel-surfing, those 18 to 22 watch it to understand child psychology and filming techniques (you can call that slightly serious I guess..), and then it gets stereotypical after that, where the mothers watch Sportacus for man-candy on the pretext of joining their kids, and the old men...yeah.

Actually I feel it just makes him look kinda funny.
It's kind of obvious he's the hero, in ways I don't really know how to describe.
I think as a kid one has the innate ability to understand that certain colours in certain shades mean certain things. For example pink is a colour that symbolises free-spiritedness and is a vital connection with girls. If you look at the little girls who watch the series they generally don't really want to be like Ziggy or Stingy or Trixie, they want to be like Stephanie. Blue shows a connection to boys, and yes, many of the boys who watch this display a wish to be like Sportacus. That particular shade of blue, in some way, has a heroic meaning behind it. Similarly with Robbie Rotten, dark purple has this disturbing, mysterious quality to it, at least to kids.

Hmm. I think its just I connect it with the old-school villain look. They always had black hair, angular faces, squinty eyes and the stereotypical pointy moustache.
Obviously Sportacus doesn't look exactly like that...and I don't think many villains look like that nowadays either XD
And yeah, I agree there. And I think that there's lots of reasons why Sportacus is the "hero". Mainly, because he opposes Robbie, who, being the funspoiler, is obviously the baddie (as well as the colours like you said). I also think that the fact that Sportacus lives in the sky in a bright and shiny...blimp...thing and the fact that Robbie has to live in a sort of dingy sewer/basement layout also helps with that.
