Description Some point in the Jurassic, a group of stegosaurs began using their backplates as sexual display. The ones which had more growths on them were seen as more attractive. Gradually, growths layered on growths turned one of the original plates near the middle of the back into a structure resembling a Koch snowflake. Only one specimen was ever discovered in the fossil record, known from its single grotesque plate. Their rarity has been theorised to have been caused by their branching thagomisers being terrible for defensive purposes, or because they were so offensive to God's eyes he struck them down with a blind fury.
